About The Position

The Infection Prevention Senior Data Analyst utilizes current data and evidence-based practices/guidelines with the goal of preventing healthcare-associated infections. This role educates infection preventionists (IP) across the MUSC system hospital team members on EMR usage, HAI/SSI abstraction and review workflow, collects, analyzes, and reports surveillance data for healthcare-associated infections. The Infection Prevention Data Analyst I utilizes current data and evidence-based practices/guidelines with the goal of preventing healthcare-associated infections. The Infection Prevention Data Analyst I assures accurate reporting of HAI/SSI quality metrics and prepares data related presentations for the IPC Charleston department. This role applies their knowledge and experience with IPC to guide practice while learning more advanced data concepts. They are responsible for collaborating to develop, implement, and sustain effective infection prevention and control data strategies. Uses technology to identify disease and illness trends Validates systems to ensure data accuracy Utilizes applicable reporting systems as required Performs data management, analysis, and visualization Job Description: The Infection Prevention Data Analyst supports multi-disciplinary teams for implementation of evidence-based practices and documentation to measure those practices. The Infection Prevention Data Analyst assists with providing guidelines and data related to performance improvement plans, projects and programs to reduce healthcare-associated infections. The Infection Prevention Data Analyst works collaboratively with other departments to ensure real-time HAI/SSI data is accurately reported to key stakeholders. The Infection Prevention Data Analyst helps with orientation and mentors other Infection Preventionists in the Infection Prevention Charleston department with the use of data tools (ex. EPIC, EPIC Bugsy, NHSN workflow, and documentation of reviewed cases). Under limited supervision, the Infection Prevention Data Analyst assumes the role and responsibilities for HAI data submitted to regulatory agencies such as NHSN, CMS, HHS, Magnet, and SPS. In addition, all public and internal data is validated prior to reporting. This role adds a tremendous amount of value in software builds for other Quality initiatives such as regulatory rounds, ICRA compliance, and HH monitoring. The Infection Prevention Data Analyst is critical to articulate requests to meet compliance with DHEC, TJC, CMS, and other certifying and regulatory bodies. The Infection Prevention Data Analyst assures accurate reporting of HAI/SSI quality metrics and prepares data related presentations for the IP department. The Infection Prevention Data Analyst collaborates with internal stake holders on key performance indicators, designs education and new processes for new initiatives and serves to support the IP Director. The Infection Prevention Data Analyst is a lead for MUSC Hospital’s infection preventionist in the abstraction and review of HAIs, and SSIs, along with the entire IP team, and serves as backup with the Director to assure on-time data submission.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in a science related field (i.e. microbiology, nursing, public health, etc.) and least three years of Infection Prevention experience.
  • Board Certification in Infection Control (CIC) is required upon hire or within the first year of employment in this position.
  • Candidates must demonstrate excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills.
  • Individual will portray professionalism, positive attitude, enthusiasm and be team oriented in all interactions.

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated ability to present complex technical and analytical topics to a non-technical audience and/or senior leadership preferred.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with hospital administrative data and electronic health records preferred.
  • Epic experience preferred.
  • Experience with data visualization tool (e.g., Tableau) preferred.
  • Experience with hospital-acquired infection data and the CDC’s National Healthcare Safety Network (NHSN) preferred.
  • Experience with hospital-acquired infections as measured by NSQIP preferred.
