About The Position

C&W Services is the industry leader in cutting-edge maintenance and janitorial programs for facilities ranging from corporate office portfolios and manufacturing plants to large public venues. This position, a Welding & Pipefitting Technician - Skilled, is located in Eddyville, IA, and focuses on the repair and fabrication of pipe, sheet, and structural assemblies in manufacturing facility environments. The role requires an individual certified, willing, and able to perform the duties of both a Pipe Fitter and a Pipe Welder.

Requirements

  • Working knowledge of blueprint reading.
  • Ability to draw and interpret isometric diagrams.
  • Ability to be certified to B31.1 and B31.3 Pipe Welding Code in 6-G position in carbon and stainless steel.
  • 0-5 years of Industrial Pipe Fitting, Pipe Welding and Repairs.
  • Current valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to observe details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).
  • Problem Sensitivity — The ability to tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong.
  • Control Precision — The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Substantial lifting (up to 50 pounds).
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended or continuous periods of time.
  • Ability to quickly bend, stretch, twist, or reach out.
  • Ability to ascend and descend staircases, ladders, and/or step stools.
  • Ability to operate applicable hand tools, power tools, and equipment.

  • Deductive Reasoning — The ability to apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

  • 0-5 years of education in industrial maintenance technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Work in a team oriented and safety conscious environment.
  • Comply with all company / site safety guidelines and procedures, including PJHA process and Observation process.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on tanks, vessels, piping systems and structural systems.
  • Rig and lift equipment, tools, parts and assemblies in accordance with Rigging and Lifting policy.
  • Work without supervision.
  • Layout and fabricate new and replacement piping systems.
  • Install valves and related piping equipment.
  • Perform repairs and preventive maintenance in conformance with established standards.
  • Lay out, position, and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications.
  • Tack-weld and weld components and assemblies using GTAW, SMAW, MIG and gas welding processes.
  • Use plasma machine, acetylene torch, band saw and cut off machines to size material.
  • Use pipe threading and cutting machine to prep threaded pipe.
  • Observe tests on welded surfaces, such as hydrostatic, x-ray, and dimension tolerance to evaluate weld quality and conformance to specifications.
  • Inspect grooves, angles, or gap allowances, using micrometer, caliper, and precision measuring instruments.
  • Remove rough spots from work piece, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper.
  • Decipher engineering drawings and specifications to plan layout, assembly, and welding operations.
  • Develop templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
  • Identify required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.
  • Work from elevated areas such as ladders, platforms, scaffolding, etc. utilizing fall protection equipment as necessary to complete tasks.
  • Operate and have knowledge of simple and complex heavy industrial equipment such as forklifts, scissors lifts, boom lifts, and skid loaders.
  • Work in confined spaces.
  • Work all shifts including holidays and weekends as demanded by the job.
  • Perform other tasks, including but not limited to mechanical repairs and maintenance, as assigned by Supervisor.
  • Ensure compliance with all company / customer regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Achieve performance expectations set forth as part of performance appraisals to include employee development planning.
  • Maintain personal tools required for your job to include an up to date documented personal tool list.
  • Meet physical requirements of the job.
  • Perform assigned tasks in a safe, effective, and efficient manner.
  • Complete accurate and timely administrative duties to include, but not limited to, time accounting and work order completion.
