About The Position

This role is to provide overarching occupational health and safety expertise through the field of Industrial Hygiene to one of Apex’s most valued clients, a national aerospace manufacturer. For the past two decades, Apex has collaborated with this manufacturer to achieve their Occupational Health and Safety, Ergonomic, and Safety Engineering goals. The incumbent will serve as a Mid-Level Industrial Hygiene contractor at the client's Wichita, Kansas facility. This is a full-time, onsite position, with the client requesting 8-hour days, 5 days a week. The initial role is for 6 months, with a possible extension based on performance. The incumbent will execute occupational safety and industrial hygiene projects from start to finish, routinely involving workplace/shop floor industrial hygiene exposure assessments, data management and tracking through the client’s internal database systems, providing deliverables based on completed assessments, and industrial hygiene program effectiveness evaluations and continuous improvement support. The ideal candidate will be an energetic self-starter with the ability to work independently and produce results within budget and timeframe. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required – preferably, in a science or engineering field
  • Minimum 3-7 years of hands-on experience required, working in the occupational safety and industrial hygiene fields
  • Possess knowledge of occupational safety and industrial hygiene technical subject matter and how to apply it in real-life settings
  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the occupational safety and industrial hygiene fields
  • Technical knowledge in INDUSTRIAL HYGIENE (IH): Shop Floor IH Sampling / Monitoring practices & techniques (Chemicals; Noise; Ventilations Systems), Similar Exposure Groups (SEG) monitoring concepts, IH Program Management (Hazard Communication; Hearing Conservation; Respiratory Protection)
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • A great deal of creativity and self-starter initiative is required
  • Ability to work independently, successfully executing technical projects with minimal supervision
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Ability to successfully multi-task
  • Safety awareness
  • Good record and understanding of safe work practices
  • Experience with data management and report preparation
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite

  • Professional credentials: Graduate Safety Practitioner (GSP); Associate Safety Professional (ASP); Certified Safety Professional (CSP); Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Experience in manufacturing-&-assembly industries / heavy industry settings
  • Experience in the aerospace and defense or automotive industry

Responsibilities

  • Providing comprehensive occupational safety and industrial hygiene consulting services to clients, including conducting shop floor observations focused on identifying, assessing and risk-ranking employee exposures to injury or illness, and devising solution options aimed at mitigating injury/illness exposures
  • In collaboration with Apex client relationship managers, coordinates and executes safety and industrial hygiene projects within set organizational procedures and standards
  • In close routine collaboration with the external customer, implements and executes an agreed-to service plan
  • Monitors and reports progress on plan completion as directed
  • Works with numerous internal and external stakeholders in the interest of achieving desired overall project velocity
  • Acts as an advisor to the customer on occupational safety and industrial hygiene issues
  • Provides input to client relationship managers or business development staff on potential new EHS projects
  • Execute occupational safety and industrial hygiene projects from start to finish
  • Conduct workplace / shop floor industrial hygiene exposure assessments
  • Perform data management and tracking through the client’s internal database systems
  • Provide deliverables based on the completed assessments
  • Conduct industrial hygiene program effectiveness evaluations and continuous improvement support
  • Work independently and produce results within budget and timeframe
  • Ensures compliance with all EHS regulations, and keeps abreast of any changes to laws and regulations that impact the organization
