Discover your opportunities at Yale! This position reports to the Associate Director of EHS and is responsible for Yale's industrial hygiene and chemical safety programs. Responsible for oversight of high-risk and significant EHS compliance programs related to industrial hygiene and laboratory safety that conform with applicable regulations, standards, and Yale policies. Manage daily operations of these programs, including development of written policies, procedures, and standards, as well as the creation of compliance reports to document completion of assigned tasks. Lead the development or enhancement of systems to manage and minimize risk, liability, and other exposures to chemical hazards for the University community. Interpret regulations and devise implementation programs that are in harmony with the university's mission. Facilitate or co-facilitate Yale's Laboratory Safety Committee. Represent the university in communications and meetings with local, state, and federal regulators concerning EHS compliance matters and counseling sessions with members of the Yale community who have EHS questions or concerns. Regularly consult and work closely with faculty, staff, and students, as well as the offices of the Provost, department chairs and administrators, general counsel, employee health, risk management, research compliance, facilities, public safety, and research animal care. Serve as a trainer and subject matter expert to other EHS staff. Advise Facilities on construction and design including laboratory ventilation. Serve as a co-lead of the Emergency Response Team for responses to hazardous materials incidents. Directly supervise 4-7 employees. Lead by communicating EHS' mission, vision, and values. Manage staff through effective recruitment, hiring, training, work planning, making assignments, scheduling, coaching, supervision, performance review, retention, and, as necessary, discipline. Assesses and makes recommendations for budget, staffing development, and staffing levels. Promote continuing education and development. In collaboration with each employee, draft individual development plans. Promote teamwork, cooperation, communication, organizational integration, task flexibility, cross-training, and inclusiveness. Develop and lead training courses various groups and assist with hands-on training for new and existing Safety Advisors. Participate in EHS strategic planning and goal setting. Create a supportive, productive, team-oriented work environment within EHS that provides excellent customer service. Promote collaboration with the campus community and further our proactive relationships with students, faculty, and staff. Perform other duties as assigned.
