About The Position

Follett currently has an opportunity for an Industrial Engineering Manager to join our Team! The Industrial Engineering Manager - Fabrication is responsible for managing a team of engineers and technicians to design, establish, and improve manufacturing systems. Responsible for capacity planning, resource utilization and efficiency metrics. Lead continuous product and process improvement activities. Represent the interests of manufacturing on cross-functional product development teams. Develop staff through training, coaching, and performance assessments.

  • BS in Industrial Engineering or a relevant technical field. An advanced degree is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Minimum of 3 years supervisory or management experience in a manufacturing environment is preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership for new product introduction, production support, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office products.
  • Detailed ERP system knowledge and experience is preferred.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Occasional lifting of no more than 25 pounds.
  • Office and manufacturing environment (manufacturing environment not temperature controlled).
  • Regular use of hands and fingers to type on keyboard, operate computer mouse, use of telephone, and various office equipment.
  • Noise level – low to moderate.
  • Moderate travel, approximately 10%, as required to perform job duties.
  • Requirements include travel between Follett business locations and to attend meetings or training outside the company as requested.

  • Experience with lean manufacturing principles is preferred.
  • Experience with sheet metal fabrication is preferred.
  • Experience in a union environment is preferred.
  • Detailed ERP system knowledge and experience is preferred.
  • Apply statistical methods to develop manufacturing processes and establish quality and reliability objectives. Minitab experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage department expenses. Plan capital appropriations to support manufacturing process improvements and product development projects.
  • Develop manufacturing methods to promote efficient staff and facility utilization.
  • Review production schedules, design specifications and related information to provide engineering support for the production teams.
  • Analyze product or component design concepts to assess manufacturing feasibility.
  • Use 3D CAD tools (Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred) to develop and communicate assembly fixture concepts and 2D work cell layouts.
  • Develop work cell designs that optimize equipment and material layout.
  • Recommend design approaches considering customer specifications, product or component performance requirements, and manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Support the development of qualification test plans and procedures to assure the performance and reliability of assembled products.
  • Direct the Model Shop to fabricate and assemble prototypes and test setups.
  • Provide product introduction training for the production teams.
  • Provide time and resource estimates to meet project objectives.
  • Provide technical and progress reports as required.
  • Apply statistical methods to develop manufacturing processes and establish quality and reliability objectives. Minitab experience preferred.
  • Establish and maintain labor standards to define staff requirements and production standards.
  • Establish and maintain process documentation.
  • Coordinate activities to resolve production issues, ensure product quality, and manage cost.
  • Recommend methods to improve utilization of personnel, material, and utilities.
  • Select, justify, purchase, install, and validate capital equipment required for new or improved manufacturing processes. Train production and maintenance personnel.
  • Provide technical support for other Follett departments as required.
  • Analyze, understand and implement industry best practices.
  • Support the engineering change process.
  • Represent the manufacturing organization in meetings to plan and coordinate work.
  • Plan and manage large, complex manufacturing projects.
  • Accomplish simultaneous projects. Resolve conflicting project requirements and priorities.
  • Conduct on-site technical visits. Review and evaluate equipment, processes, and systems.
