About The Position

As an Industrial Engineering Intern, you'll support engineering and production teams by applying industrial engineering principles, technical tools, and lean thinking to improve efficiency, organization, and usability across manufacturing environments. Summary The Industrial Engineering Intern supports Weatherby's Industrial Engineering function by applying engineering fundamentals, manufacturing technologies, and lean principles to improve workflows, tooling organization, and operational efficiency. This internship provides hands-on experience with process improvement, digital design, fabrication technologies, and data-driven decision-making while offering experience in projects from concept through implementation.

Requirements

  • Current enrollment in a college or technical program in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • Interest in lean manufacturing, process improvement, and operations.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and use hands to handle tools and materials.
  • Ability to work with small parts, tools, and computer equipment.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience or coursework in CAD, data analysis, or programming is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and support laser cutting equipment for precision foam cutting used in tooling organization.
  • Create CAD and vector-based trace files to translate physical tools into digital profiles.
  • Design and implement additive manufacturing (3D printing) solutions, including Gridfinity-style organizational systems.
  • Optimize 3D print designs for durability, efficiency, and repeatability in a production environment.
  • Develop and maintain a custom software or digital tool to track stock levels and usage rates for engineering hardware.
  • Learn and apply proper lamination techniques for foam shadow boards to ensure long-term durability.
  • Apply industrial engineering and 5S principles with emphasis on Set in Order and Standardize.
  • Design and implement visual management systems that make missing tools or low inventory immediately visible.
  • Analyze inventory flow and storage logic for hardware such as nuts, bolts, and springs.
  • Support process improvement initiatives by identifying and implementing small changes that create cumulative efficiency gains.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with industrial engineers, production teams, and engineers to gather requirements.
  • Take ownership of improvement projects from concept, design, and analysis through fabrication, installation, and validation.
  • Apply design thinking to balance ergonomics, aesthetics, functionality, and manufacturability.
  • Deliver assigned projects on time with measurable operational improvement.
  • Demonstrate ownership, initiative, and continuous learning.
  • Follow safety, quality, and documentation standards.
  • Communicate progress, results, and learnings clearly to stakeholders.
