About The Position

As an Engineer II - Industrial at Vermeer, you will independently apply engineering principles and lean methodologies to design, optimize, and improve manufacturing processes. You will conduct structured analysis, develop layouts, and implement process changes that enhance safety, quality, cost, and throughput. This role expands on foundational experience by increasing ownership in problem‑solving, documentation, and continuous improvement, while partnering closely with operations, engineering, and quality teams to sustain high‑performing production systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or related field with a minimum two (2) years’ relevant experience in a manufacturing environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience applying lean manufacturing principles, CI tools, and structured problem‑solving methodologies.
  • Proficiency using CAD tools (AutoCAD, DraftSight, SOLIDWORKS) for layout design, workflow visualization, and process planning.
  • Experience conducting time studies, cycle‑time decomposition, workflow assessments, and root‑cause analysis.
  • Strong analytical capability with familiarity in takt‑time analysis, capacity calculations, and line balancing.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and supporting teams.
  • Ability to manage multiple improvement initiatives simultaneously and deliver data‑supported recommendations that advance operational performance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and analyze value stream maps that identify waste and highlight opportunities for improvement, recommending future‑state concepts that strengthen flow, reduce variation, and support key performance outcomes.
  • Design and update workstation, line, and facility layouts using Computer‑Aided Design (CAD) tools such as AutoCAD, DraftSight, or SOLIDWORKS, applying principles of ergonomics, material‑flow optimization, takt‑time balance (production rate based on customer demand), and efficient space utilization.
  • Facilitate Continuous Improvement (CI) activities including 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain), Kaizen events, and structured root‑cause analysis to enhance efficiency, safety, and process stability.
  • Create, revise, and sustain manufacturing documentation including Standard Operating Procedures (SOP), Standard Operating Sequence (SOS), and Digital Instructions (DI) to ensure accuracy, clarity, and alignment with production changes.
  • Conduct time studies, line‑balance modeling, cycle‑time evaluations, and capacity assessments to support labor planning, throughput optimization, and data‑driven decision‑making.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing, engineering, quality, logistics, and operations partners to validate process changes through trials, feedback loops, and performance metrics.
  • Execute updates to Engineering Change Notices (ECNs) by coordinating layout modifications, documentation changes, operator instructions, and implementation activities across affected teams.
