Nucor Steel West Virginia is seeking a Crane Electrical Maintenance Electrician who demonstrates high levels of honesty, integrity, and ownership in everything they do. The selected teammate will contribute to team success by safely performing preventive and corrective electrical maintenance on steel mill equipment and systems. During the construction phase, maintenance electricians will support mill buildout activities and assist in the development of our Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) to ensure proper design criteria, equipment reliability, and long-term maintainability. Nucor Steel West Virginia’s greenfield project is a new state-of-the-art sheet steel mill that will produce up to 3 million tons per year once fully operational. This advanced manufacturing facility is located in Mason County, along the Ohio River in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of hands‑on industrial electrician experience
  • Demonstrated working knowledge of fundamental electrical theory
  • Proven ability to independently troubleshoot and repair 480V motors and motor control systems

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working in a steel mill or heavy industrial environment
  • Associate (2‑year) or Bachelor’s (4‑year) degree in Electrical Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Experience working with crane and mill control systems, including Magnetek, Ace, Morgan, Danieli, and/or Siemens platforms
  • Experience working with automated industrial equipment and systems

Responsibilities

  • Propose and implement innovative solutions to challenges in the steelmaking process, with a focus on safety, reliability, quality, cost control, and project execution
  • Perform electrical and electronic troubleshooting, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance on industrial equipment and systems
  • Read, interpret, and work from electrical and mechanical schematics
  • Demonstrate knowledge of: Medium- and low-voltage electrical systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of: Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of: Instrumentation and controls
  • Demonstrate knowledge of: AC/DC variable frequency drives (VFDs)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of: Motors and motor control systems
  • Demonstrate knowledge of: Automatic coil handling
  • Train teammates on new equipment installations and modifications to existing systems
  • Work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, and scheduled or unscheduled overtime, as required
