About The Position

The Industrial Electricianl & Controls - Project Manager oversees the planning, execution, and completion of electrical and automation projects across Bartlett’s grain and milling operations. Projects range from new installations to modernization and retrofit work across Bartlett’s new and long-standing facilities, ensuring reliability and consistency across both new and established infrastructure. This role bridges field installation, electrical design, and process-controls integration - coordinating internal resources, outside contractors, and system vendors to deliver safe, reliable, and standardized installations. It combines the leadership of a project manager with the hands-on involvement of a field electrician and commissioning lead - someone equally comfortable planning in the office and working alongside crews during installation, troubleshooting, and startup. Success in this role requires technical depth, field awareness, and the ability to drive projects through all phases - from concept and design to startup and commissioning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Automation, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience managing industrial electrical or controls projects, preferably in grain handling, milling, or process industries.
  • Strong working knowledge of MCC systems, motor controls, PLCs, HMIs, and instrumentation.
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD or comparable electrical-design and documentation software used for panel and schematic layouts.
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across internal departments and external vendors while maintaining cost and schedule control.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills with a hands-on approach to problem solving.
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly (approximately 50-70%) to Bartlett job sites for installation oversight, hands-on assistance, commissioning, and troubleshooting. The role is field-oriented, with more time spent on site than at a desk, depending on project phase and workload.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with hazard-monitoring systems and general process-safety instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of industrial networking and communication protocols (EtherNet/IP, Modbus, RS-485).
  • Basic understanding of networking fundamentals, including setting IP addresses, managing small industrial networks, and diagnosing common connectivity issues.
  • Experience specifying and commissioning electrical-distribution and motor-control equipment.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70B preventive-maintenance standards and NFPA 70E arc-flash and electrical-safety requirements.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and mark up electrical and control schematics.
  • Formal project-management training or certifications are beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and manage electrical and controls projects across multiple Bartlett facilities, ensuring scope, budget, and schedule objectives are met.
  • Develop project scopes, cost estimates, and implementation plans for electrical infrastructure upgrades, automation improvements, and equipment installations.
  • Coordinate with internal maintenance and operations teams, as well as external engineers, electrical contractors, and system integrators.
  • Review and approve panel layouts, MCC designs, and control schematics for consistency with Bartlett standards.
  • Oversee procurement and delivery of major electrical and controls components - including MCC buckets, soft starts, VFDs, PLC hardware, and instrumentation.
  • Be present on site during field execution to verify workmanship, coordinate contractors, and resolve real-time technical issues.
  • Manage commissioning activities, including device checkout, I/O verification, interlock testing, and system handoff.
  • Ensure compliance with NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 70B, NFPA 70E, and corporate electrical-safety procedures.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including drawings, network layouts, and as-built records.
  • Lead company-wide efforts to standardize electrical and control-system practices across facilities.
  • Provide ongoing technical support, system improvements, and field troubleshooting across both new and existing Bartlett facilities.
