About The Position

Intern at Eufaula Lake will assist US Army Corps of Engineers staff in completing various duties in Operations and Maintenance, Visitor Service and Natural Resource Management.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Must complete defensive driving training provided by the government.
  • Must have the ability to work outdoors and lift up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to safely operate hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

  • Grounds maintenance duties include use of hand tools and light power tools for vegetation clearing, painting, surface prep, debris/litter removal, tree cutting, and weeding. Interns will move materials by wheelbarrow or hand truck, load/unload trucks, and perform minor equipment servicing and routine upkeep of recreation and wildlife sites.
  • Visitor services duties include staffing the information desk, answering public inquiries, and conducting interpretive presentations on Corps missions, history, and project operations. Interns will register campers, direct traffic, and develop and maintain informational and educational materials. Inspection duties include checking recreation areas for vandalism, unsafe conditions, safety hazards and unauthorized use, as well as supporting shoreline management through sign posting, boundary marking, permit inspections, and wildlife surveys.
  • Intern will also assist with forestry, fisheries, and habitat assessments; collect data on water quality, vegetation, noxious weeds, and wildlife/fish populations; and support habitat work and environmental compliance monitoring.
  • Additional duties include assisting with first aid, boating, and emergency response, and working alongside Corps staff, volunteers, and external organizations as needed.
