About The Position

The Arapaho National Forest, Sulphur Ranger district is seeking skilled, highly motivated placements to help protect and manage the Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA). ANRA placements will work in conjunction with district Arapaho National Recreation Area (ANRA) Staff to reconstruct, patrol, monitor, assess, and maintain Developed Recreation areas in The East Troublesome Burn Area as well as ones not effected by the fire. Placements will participate in lake management consisting of dock placement and maintenance, buoy placement & management, gate management & signage and Aquatic Nuisance Species (ANS) Support. The placements will perform ground maintenance in the developed day use areas throughout the ANRA by doing vegetation management, parking lot maintenance, boat launch, walking surface maintenance. Placements will assist with ensuring trails within the ANRA are maintained to established standards which will include the use of crosscut saws and/or chainsaws and other primitive tools. Placements will support facilities maintenance such as toilet facility cleaning and stocking, minor structure repairs painting, trash/litter cleanup, signage and information posting, fencing repair etc. Placements will interact daily with multiple staff, cooperators, and partners, we are looking for energetic, enthusiastic placements that thrive in a dynamic group work environment and get along well with others. Marginal Duties Placements will inform the public by education on camping rules, leave no trace, fee compliance, CPW registrations, and lake patrols.

Requirements

  • Must have a vehicle and valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to drive 4x4 trucks on forest roads, work in burned areas, and carry out duties in steep and rugged terrain and wilderness areas
  • Must be able to work with other people on a crew and under the direction of USFS staff
  • Must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger
  • Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Chainsaw certification
  • First Aid / CPR
  • Experience operating motorized boats
  • Experience towing trailers
  • Experience interacting with members of the public, communicating LNT principles.
