Your Key Responsibilities As a Severance Tax Intern, you will collaborate with oil and gas clients to identify severance tax incentives and deductions. You will spend your time working on a diverse array of projects, responsibilities, and tasks. You will be working in a highly collaborative culture where active listening and information sharing with colleagues are an essential part of the role. As an Intern in our Indirect practice, your role will include:

Requirements

  • An anticipated undergraduate or graduate degree with a concentration in Finance, Economics, or a related field.
  • A strong academic record, including coursework deemed relevant by EY for this position.
  • Excellent communication skills, with proficiency in basic MS Office tools, and strong writing abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • The ability and willingness to travel and work in excess of standard hours when necessary. In certain circumstances, travel may be required beyond your work location based on client and project needs.
  • Access to reliable transportation to/from the EY office and client sites. A driver’s license is strongly recommended as ride share and public transportation options may not be available in all locations.
  • You must either reside in or be in a commutable distance to Houston, TX, for this position.
  • Please note this position is not able to consider candidates with an Accounting major who have plans to pursue the CPA.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of the oil and gas sector.
  • Eligibility to sit for the COPAS APA designation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Access and Alteryx.
  • Knowledge of how to leverage firm-approved AI tools in a business setting, including Microsoft Copilot.

Responsibilities

  • Building a broad base of knowledge and technical competence by staying current on trends, developments and technical authorities, applying them to complex situations impacting severance taxes.
  • Collecting, entering, and performing data calculations.
  • Utilizing data tools such as Excel, Access, Alteryx and other data tools to manage and analyze data effectively.
  • Building client relationships, demonstrating knowledge of client business and delivering high-quality, timely services that exceed client expectations.
  • Managing multiple projects simultaneously with efficiency and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrating professionalism through a positive and cooperative attitude, while maintaining the confidential and proprietary nature of client relationships and related work products.
  • Contributing to team success by mastering EY methodologies and tools to enhance service delivery.
