Requirements

  • Three years of experience performing responsible clerical or administrative duties
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Post-secondary education may substitute for the required experience on a year-for-year basis
  • Must possess or can obtain a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire
  • Must secure and maintain an Arizona Department of Public Safety Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card and complete a background check
  • Within one month of hire, all employees will be required to provide evidence of immunity or receive immunizations for vaccine-preventable illnesses for any position within the Maricopa County Department of Public Health; required immunizations include MMR (measles, mumps, rubella), Tdap (whooping cough and diphtheria), Varicella (chickenpox), and annual Influenza; some positions require a Hepatitis B vaccine and/or a Tuberculosis test

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of program coordination or case management experience
  • One or more years of extensive public contact experience, including interacting with citizens under stressful conditions and advising the public on laws, rules, or ordinances related to government or entitlement programs
  • Familiarity with the Arizona Revised Statutes and the Arizona Administrative Code related to Vital Records and Funeral Service mandates
  • Ability to work with traumatic subject matter on a regular basis; this position coordinates disposition for deceased individuals and is located at the OVR satellite office within the Maricopa County Office of the Medical Examiner
  • Bilingual skills in English and Spanish

Responsibilities

  • Applies specialized knowledge of Arizona Revised Statutes, Arizona Administrative Codes, and internal policies to conduct intake, coordinate referral services, and determine eligibility for decedent disposition programs
  • Interviews, counsels, and guides applicants, vendors, and stakeholders regarding government entitlement eligibility, alternative disposition resources, and community support options
  • Addresses high‑volume customer inquiries and participates in ongoing training, including vendor and staff orientation, to ensure consistent program and contract compliance
  • Coordinates supportive processes from case initiation through determination and file closure via electronic time tracking, case documentation, and program-related automated data management
  • Provides consultation and training to funeral homes, healthcare facilities, public partners, and stakeholders regarding the vital registration and indigent decedent services process
  • Complies with secure data records retention policies, HIPAA guidelines, and PII policies and maintains strict compliance with the management and recording of all vital records and indigent decedent services data set forth by the State of Arizona
  • Properly documents, photographs, secures, and disposes of personal property belonging to decedents referred to the CIDS program, following chain‑of-custody and retention guidelines
  • Oversees interment services at White Tanks Cemetery and the National/State VA Cemetery of Arizona, ensuring all activities comply with program requirements and resolving barriers promptly
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
