About The Position

The Indigenous Training Facilitator supports Scarborough Health Network’s commitment to equity, inclusion, and reconciliation by developing and delivering culturally grounded education and training for staff, physicians, and volunteers. This role exists to strengthen organizational understanding of Indigenous histories, cultures, and health perspectives—advancing SHN’s vision of delivering inclusive, compassionate, and culturally safe care for all communities it serves. Requirements

  • Highschool diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of facilitation/ learning and development experience
  • Minimum of 2 years working directly with Indigenous communities
  • Advanced knowledge in Indigenous cultures and histories
  • Knowledge of Adult leaning and facilitation theory
  • Strong knowledge of cultural safety and anti-racism practices and cultural humility and empathy
  • Awareness of SDOH for Indigenous patients/families
  • Superb facilitation and presentation skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Exception skills in program design, evaluation, digital literacy, conflict resolution and trauma-informed care
  • Outstanding collaboration skills and a team player

Nice To Haves

  • Undergraduate degree
  • Master’s degree
  • Adult education certificate
  • 1 year working experience within a healthcare setting

Responsibilities

  • Facilitation of Indigenous Training Programs Plan, organize, and deliver culturally grounded training sessions, workshops, and presentations for staff, students, or community members. Ensure that all sessions reflect Indigenous worldviews, knowledge systems, and learning styles. Use interactive, experiential, and land-based approaches when appropriate.
  • Curriculum Development/Adaption Develop and adapt training materials and resources that integrate Indigenous perspectives, teachings, and protocols. Collaborate with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community partners to ensure cultural accuracy and authenticity.
  • Relationship Building and Community Engagement (with Indigenous Advisory Circle) Build and maintain strong, respectful relationships with Indigenous communities, organizations, and cultural advisors. Ensure ongoing consultation and engagement to guide program content and delivery.
  • Participant Support and Guidance Provide mentorship, guidance, and support to participants throughout the training process. Create safe, inclusive learning environments that honour Indigenous identities and experiences.
  • Evaluation and Reporting Work with internal teams to promote cultural competency across the organization. Contribute to strategic initiatives that advance Truth and Reconciliation, decolonization, and equity.
