About The Position

The Inclusion Outreach Educator serves as a key ambassador for Creative Discovery Museum’s inclusive education and outreach programs. This role builds trusting relationships with families, schools, and community partners while delivering high-quality, hands-on STEAM learning experiences in schools, community spaces, and museum programs. They contribute to the development of programs that meet the needs of all learners and serve as point-person for staff and the community for our Inclusion programs. Through engaging, standards-aligned science, math, art, and integrated learning experiences, the Inclusion Outreach Educator supports children in PreK–8th grade and collaborates with educators and caregivers to extend learning beyond the classroom. This role also contributes expertise in inclusive practices and exceptional education, helping inform and strengthen museum-wide experiences for staff and guests. Outreach Educators are energetic, relationship-driven educators who enjoy teaching, collaborating, and adapting learning experiences to support a wide range of learners.

Requirements

  • Commitment to Creative Discovery Museum’s core values: relationships, potential, respect, belonging, and exceptional service.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field.
  • Degree, certification, or formal training in exceptional education, special education, or inclusive practices.
  • Minimum of two years of experience teaching or facilitating learning experiences for children in a classroom environment.
  • Experience supporting learners with varied abilities, needs, and learning styles.
  • Knowledge of common educational accommodations and support plans (e.g., IEPs, 504 Plans).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience facilitating programs for children with disabilities or other support needs in informal learning environments such as museums, camps, or afterschool programs.
  • Familiarity with local school districts, curriculum standards, and family engagement practices.
  • Experience working in collaborative, team-based environments, including supporting or guiding peers in ways that promote safety and positive participant experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate museum-based Inclusion programs such as Friends Discovery Camps, Sensory Nights, and Club Discovery, applying best practices in inclusion and informal learning environments.
  • Perform Outreach Educator functions in schools, in the museum, and in the community.
  • Ensure developmentally appropriate experiences through thoughtful facilitation, collaborative planning, and relationship-centered practice.
  • Work as a teammate to caregivers in developing success plans and accommodations for learners to be successful in our programs.
  • Contribute professional knowledge and experience to support museum content development and staff learning, including sharing expertise, training colleagues, and developing support materials.
  • Deliver engaging, hands-on outreach programs and family-focused events using research-based instructional strategies that support inclusive learning.
  • Build positive, respectful relationships with teachers, school administrators, caregivers, and community partners while modeling effective instructional and inclusive practices.
  • Prepare, maintain, and restock program materials to ensure consistent, high-quality experiences.
  • Recommend materials and adaptations that support access and participation for all learners.
  • Complete required administrative tasks, including scheduling coordination, teacher and caregiver communication, and distribution or collection of program materials.
  • Communicate proactively with caregivers of children with learning/developmental/physical differences and other support needs to align accommodations and safety considerations, escalating concerns to supervisors as appropriate.
  • Represent Creative Discovery Museum when called upon through trainings, conference presentations, and participation in community or professional networks related to education and inclusion.
  • Demonstrate the vision for CDM Inclusion as communicated by leadership.
  • Participate in museum-wide meetings, trainings, and collaborative initiatives as a supportive and engaged team member.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support departmental and museum goals, including as a backup within the department.
