About The Position

Under the direction of the Recreation Superintendent, the Inclusion Aide is responsible for planning, implementing, and supervision of the day to day activities to make them as inclusive as possible for individuals with special needs. The Inclusion Aide may interact with children 2-16 years old in addition to other counselors, staff, and supervisors on a daily basis. This position is responsible for supervising children with and without disabilities and providing a safe recreational environment for participants.

Requirements

  • Some high school education
  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Ability to obtain CPR/AED/First Aid training within 30 days of hire
  • Complete DCFS Mandated Reporter Training

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in recreational programming/summer camp preferred
  • One year experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support and assist individuals with disabilities participating in local park district programs
  • Assist with the inclusion of the participants in a park district program, while also acting as part of the overall staff of the program
  • Demonstrate dependability, promptness, flexibility, and punctuality
  • Maintain effective communication with supervisors, staff, participants, and families
  • Directly responsible for the safety and supervision of participants
  • Plan, prepare, and set-up activities and projects for participants
  • Ensure that all materials and instructions are ready and prepared for activities
  • Lead participants in daily activities and on field trips
  • Communicate effectively to participants and be able to explain based on each child’s development
  • Participate and monitor participants in various programming, including, but not limited to swimming in the pool
  • Promote and encourage participation in daily activities. Adapting activities to the needs of the individual with special needs
  • Maintain a positive environment
  • Enforce policies, rules, and safety regulations
  • Use appropriate and positive discipline when necessary for participants
  • Document and communicate any issues that are occurring with participants, families, or staff
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized environment for children to learn and grow
  • Help serve and monitor lunch and snack while assisting any participants who may need assistance
  • Ensure all materials and location are fully cleaned up before leaving
  • Attend staff meetings as required
  • Assist the individual with understanding and following rules and directions and/or modifying an activity so they can participate
