About The Position

We are seeking an INCIDENT INVESTIGATIONS MANAGER for our Channelview, TX OR Harahan, LA office. Blessey Marine Services, Inc. owns and operates one of the youngest multi-faceted inland tank barge and vessel fleets in the United States. JOB TITLE : Incident Investigations Manager DEPARTMENT: Health, Safety and Environmental FLSA STATUS: Exempt SUPERVISION: Reports to: Vice President of HSE and Compliance Supervises: This position has no supervisory responsibilities This position can be located in Harahan, LA or Channelview, TX SUMMARY DESCRIPTION: Manage the Company’s Marine Incident Investigation program by performing the following duties: ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Oversee and manage the Company’s Marine Incident Investigation process. Assign Investigation Team Members and ensure all investigation policies/procedures are followed in accordance with the Company’s Quality Management System (QMS) Manual. Lead Investigation Team to identify incident root causes and develop corrective/preventive actions to eliminate future incidents. Draft formal Incident Investigation Report and/or short form Root Cause Analysis Investigations for Senior Management approval. Coordinate responses to customers and others based on investigation results. Ensure proper corrective actions are identified, documented, implemented, and tracked to close-out in a timely manner. Incorporate lessons learned and best practices into Safety Alerts, Weekly Safety Data Reports, and Monthly Incident Summaries. Manage and maintain incident information in company internal electronic database system. Assist in compiling month end incident summaries for reporting purposes. Assist in the analyzing and trending of marine incidents, specifically their root causes for continuous improvement. Pull, view, and analyze audio/visual data as part of the investigation process. Coordinate with other departments to close out incidents with USCG and Customers by gathering documents, statements,dive reports etc.. . Attention to detail in composing, writing and proofing materials, establishing priorities and meeting internal and external deadlines. Must be able to effectively work with all employees, customers, vendors and governmental agencies.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree is required.
  • Working knowledge of the Marine Industry is required, preferably inland towing vessel experience.
  • Prior formal Root Cause Analysis training required.
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including but not limited to Excel and Microsoft Word software.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Proficient spelling, grammar and written communication skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of office administration procedures.
  • Ability to operate most standard office equipment.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak clearly in the English language.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Employee and/or applicant must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History check and possess and maintain a current valid driver's license in their state of residence.

Nice To Haves

  • Navigation and/or Mechanical experience is strongly preferred.
