About The Position

Pharmaron San Diego is seeking a motivated In Vivo Research Associate (I, II, or III) to join our Ophthalmology team. In this role, you will support preclinical in vivo ophthalmic studies and contribute to developing novel therapies for eye diseases. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with laboratory animals, administering test articles, collecting specimens, and performing ophthalmic procedures in a fast-paced research environment. Depending on your level of experience I, II or III Additional tasks: Administer test substances using routes such as oral gavage, SQ, IV, ID, and topical ocular dosing across multiple species. Observe, monitor, and assess animal health and welfare. Perform biological specimen collection, including blood draws and tissue sampling from various laboratory species. Execute study tasks in compliance with GLP regulations, study protocols, SOPs, and company policies. Perform Intraocular Pressure (IOP) measurements using Pneumatonometer or Tonovet. Restrain and handle animals for ophthalmic imaging and diagnostic assessments. Assist with necropsies and ophthalmic tissue collections. Support surgical procedures and provide assistance to the operating surgeon. Perform and monitor anesthesia and analgesia, including post-operative recovery. Conduct study setup activities including room preparation, supply staging, and tube labeling. Perform aseptic techniques and follow biosafety and animal care guidelines. Place catheters in small and large animals as required by study design. Maintain accurate, timely data entry in internal systems including eQCM, Provantis, and Vivarium+. Perform other duties as directed by Management.

Requirements

  • In Vivo Research Associate I: Associate degree in veterinary technology with 1-2 years of experience, or BS with 1 year of experience.
  • In Vivo Research Associate II: Associate degree in veterinary technology with 3 years relevant experience, or BS with 2 years of experience.
  • In Vivo Research Associate III: Associate degree in veterinary technology with 4 years relevant experience, or BS with 3 years of experience.
  • A combination of education and relevant hands-on experience will be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification is highly desired, particularly for candidates with anesthesia, surgical support, or ophthalmic procedure experience.
  • Prior experience in ophthalmology, in vivo models, or preclinical research.
  • Working knowledge of animal handling, dosing techniques, clinical observations, and specimen collection.
  • Strong attention to detail, documentation accuracy, and ability to follow strict regulatory procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
  • Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and ability to adapt to a dynamic team environment.
