The Import & Export Specialist is responsible for coordinating and managing international trade activities to ensure compliant, timely, and cost-effective movement of goods. This role ensures adherence to import/export regulations, accurate documentation, and effective coordination with internal teams, freight forwarders, and regulatory agencies.

Requirements

  • Strong knowledge of import/export regulations and trade compliance requirements.
  • Excellent attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in ERP systems, trade compliance software, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to manage multiple shipments and priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working in an office environment.
  • Ability to occasionally walk to warehouse or operational areas as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in import/export, international logistics, or trade compliance roles.
  • Knowledge of Incoterms, HTS classification, and customs compliance required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in manufacturing, chemical, flavor, fragrance, or regulated industries preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage import and export shipments in compliance with applicable international trade regulations.
  • Prepare, review, and maintain import/export documentation, including commercial invoices, packing lists, certificates, and customs filings.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs, FDA, USDA, TSA, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Classify products using Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) codes and ensure accurate duty assessments.
  • Coordinate with freight forwarders, customs brokers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure timely shipment execution.
  • Monitor shipment status and resolve delays, discrepancies, or compliance issues.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for audit and regulatory purposes.
  • Support export control compliance, including denied party screening and licensing requirements.
  • Collaborate with Customer Care, Purchasing, Regulatory, Quality, and Logistics teams to support international orders.
  • Assist with cost analysis related to freight, duties, and landed cost calculations.
  • Monitor regulatory changes and assess impact on import/export processes.
  • Support internal audits, trade compliance reviews, and process improvement initiatives.
  • Support the company in achieving established compliance, service, and logistics performance goals.
  • Perform all other duties and tasks as assigned.
