In Albuquerque, we are entering our second full year of partnership with Albuquerque Public Schools, supporting system-level redesign at the middle and high school levels, with team-based models at the center. In Michigan, we partner with the Michigan Educator Workforce Initiative (MEWI) to support more than 10 systems and 30+ schools implementing team-based models across the state. Implementation coaches partner directly with school and system leaders to design, implement, and sustain team-based models. Through a combination of in-person visits and virtual coaching, coaches help leaders clarify vision, design structures, and translate strategy into daily practice. Coaches use observation, data, and ongoing dialogue to help leaders identify priorities, take action, and improve over time. They build leaders’ capacity to lead teams, navigate change, and sustain progress. A core part of the role is facilitating professional learning for leaders and educator teams. Coaches primarily facilitate existing learning experiences, adapting them to context, and contribute insights from the field to strengthen tools, resources, and program design. Implementation Coaches are part of the Next Education Workforce Implementation & Design team — a collaborative group working together to improve coaching, professional learning, and impact across partnerships. About Next Education Workforce Arizona State University’s Next Education Workforce Initiative partners with schools and systems to redesign how schools work through team-based staffing models.
