About The Position

We are seeking experienced K–12 education leaders and coaches to support our work with school systems. We are hiring for multiple Implementation Coach roles, with two coaches primarily supporting in Albuquerque, New Mexico and one coach supporting in the state of Michigan. In Albuquerque, we are entering our second full year of partnership with Albuquerque Public Schools, supporting system-level redesign at the middle and high school levels, with team-based models at the center. In Michigan, we partner with the Michigan Educator Workforce Initiative (MEWI) to support more than 10 systems and 30+ schools implementing team-based models across the state. Implementation coaches partner directly with school and system leaders to design, implement, and sustain team-based models. Through a combination of in-person visits and virtual coaching, coaches help leaders clarify vision, design structures, and translate strategy into daily practice. Coaches use observation, data, and ongoing dialogue to help leaders identify priorities, take action, and improve over time. They build leaders’ capacity to lead teams, navigate change, and sustain progress. A core part of the role is facilitating professional learning for leaders and educator teams. Coaches primarily facilitate existing learning experiences, adapting them to context, and contribute insights from the field to strengthen tools, resources, and program design. Implementation Coaches are part of the Next Education Workforce Implementation & Design team — a collaborative group working together to improve coaching, professional learning, and impact across partnerships. About Next Education Workforce Arizona State University’s Next Education Workforce Initiative partners with schools and systems to redesign how schools work through team-based staffing models. Today, these models are operating in over 120 schools serving more than 30,000 students across 16 states and two countries. Through coaching and role-specific professional learning, we support leaders to design and implement models tailored to their context. These models organize educators into teams that share responsibility for a roster of students, unlocking new possibilities for teaching and learning and delivering measurable improvements in both educator and student outcomes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education or a related field
  • Experience (3+ years) in school leadership and/or school-based coaching with demonstrated success
  • Experience (2+ years) facilitating professional learning for educators or leaders
  • Experience driving implementation through leaders, coaching through layers of leadership to translate vision into clear priorities and ensure those priorities show up in team-level practice
  • Ability to coach to outcomes, leading coaching cycles that drive measurable shifts in leadership and team practice, including identifying the highest-leverage focus using evidence and context
  • Track record of building strong, trusting relationships with leaders that lead to deeper investment and the ability to influence change
  • Skill in making sense of complex, evolving situations and driving clarity, translating them into clear priorities, decisions, and next steps
  • Experience facilitating practical professional learning for educators or leaders that results in changes to practice, not just increased understanding
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and relationships across schools, leaders, and coaching cycles, maintaining strong coordination, follow-through, and responsive communication
  • Ability to communicate with clarity and drive action, leading focused conversations, asking strong questions, navigating differing perspectives, and driving toward clear decisions and next steps
  • Commitment to shared responsibility and collective success as a teammate, contributing to a team culture where ownership, accountability, and impact are shared

Responsibilities

  • Coach school and system leaders to design, implement, and sustain team-based models: Build strong, trust-based relationships that create the foundation for productive dialogue, influence, and accountability
  • Support leaders through the planning (Prepare) phase to clarify vision and purpose, define success, and design team models, structures, and implementation plans
  • Support system leaders in designing and implementing the structural and operational conditions for teaming, including schedules, staffing, and systems, and in removing barriers within their local context
  • Develop leaders’ capacity to lead change by setting priorities, creating alignment, and driving implementation across the school or system
  • Build leaders’ capacity to lead and coach effective educator teams, including how teams function together (teammateship), plan together (collaborative planning), and teach together (dynamic team teaching)
  • Guide leaders through continuous improvement cycles to prioritize, monitor progress, solve problems, and celebrate wins
  • Support leaders in building buy-in and alignment across staff and stakeholders through clear communication and engagement
  • Facilitate high-impact professional learning: Facilitate high-quality professional learning for leaders and educator teams (virtual and in person)
  • Adapt core learning experiences to align to school, system, and regional partners in your portfolio
  • Partner with Design team to ensure learning is practical, engaging, and directly connected to implementation priorities
  • Model practices during facilitation that leaders can apply in team meetings, shared instructional time (team teaching), and school-based professional learning
  • Contribute to regional, partner, and grant goals: Partner with regional teammates and partner organizations to plan and execute strategies aligned to system and grant priorities
  • Design and facilitate regional convenings and learning experiences
  • Monitor progress across schools and systems and support continuous improvement in service of achieving system and grant goals
  • Strengthen alignment and coherence across school partners and partner organizations within a region
  • Contribute to Next Education Workforce team and program development: Design, create, and refine coaching tools and program-aligned resources based on field learning and implementation needs
  • Collaborate with teammates to share insights, surface challenges, and strengthen coaching and professional learning across partnerships
  • Actively contribute to a team culture grounded in trust, accountability, and shared learning
  • Engage in ongoing reflection and feedback to strengthen individual and team effectiveness
