The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (Global Energy Alliance) The Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (Global Energy Alliance) works for a world where everyone has access to affordable, reliable, clean electricity and the means to use it to improve their lives. Our Alliance builds transformative public, private, philanthropic partnerships to end energy poverty and accelerate green economic opportunity. Founded in 2021 by The Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation, and Bezos Earth Fund, we design innovative projects/programs, unlock finance, strengthen institutions and transform markets, delivering progress anchored in deep community engagement. By uniting actors across the value chain, from households to heads of state, we go beyond individual projects to drive lasting systems change. With work in more than 30 countries across Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Caribbean, our Alliance aims to reach 1 billion people with clean electricity, prevent 4 billion tons of carbon emissions and create or improve 150 million jobs. Accountabilities At the forefront of the Global Energy Alliance’s (GEA) work, the Impact team partners across the organization to deliver rigorous assessments of clean energy programs in developing regions and to strengthen the systems, tools, and evidence needed for continuous learning and improvement. As part of the Impact team, you will help assess and communicate the real-world impact of the Global Energy Alliance’s clean energy portfolio through quantitative analysis, research, and evaluation.

Requirements

  • You are an analytically strong and mission-driven graduate with a passion for sustainability and impact, motivated to apply quantitative methods and evidence-based evaluation to challenges in global climate and development.
  • You have demonstrated academic excellence and initiative and have recently completed a master’s degree in economics, public policy, statistics, data science, development economics, environmental or energy policy, or a closely related analytical field.
  • This internship will be paid in line with the New York living wage.
  • The assignment will run for 8-10 weeks in the summer period, starting in May/June 2026.
  • As we will be operating a hybrid structure, we ask that you are or can be based in DC or NY and are able to join us in office twice a week.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct quantitative analysis to support core impact measurement efforts across the Global Energy Alliance's portfolio, including data cleaning, statistical analysis, and preparation of results for stakeholder reporting
  • Assist with mixed-methods research for impact case studies, including qualitative data coding, stakeholder interview summaries, and integration of quantitative and qualitative evidence
  • Prepare technical memos, data visualizations, and presentation materials for internal stakeholders and external partners on evaluation findings and methodological approaches
  • Contribute to the Global Energy Alliance's monitoring, evaluation, and learning systems by documenting analytical processes, creating reference materials, and supporting knowledge management efforts
  • Lead the development of the PM Surya Ghar case study, under the supervision of the hiring manager, including conducting literature reviews, analyzing program data, and synthesizing findings on the impact of GEA’s support for India’s flagship residential solar initiative. PM Surya Ghar is a Government of India program supported by GEA that aims to accelerate the adoption of residential rooftop solar systems nationwide. The initiative enables households to generate clean electricity for self-consumption through a centralized digital platform that streamlines registration, vendor selection, approvals, and subsidy disbursement. The final report will be presented to the organization, with analysis informing GEA’s published annual Impact Report.
