About The Position

ABOUT OUR DISTRICT: The Syracuse City School District is undergoing a new phase of innovation and transformation with the goal of ensuring that all students graduate high school with the skills needed to be ready for college and career. For Syracuse, all means all. The School Board and Syracuse community have charged the Superintendent with improving student achievement, and she is seeking a dedicated and diverse team of educators to partner with her in moving the district toward its goals. The Syracuse City School District represents 35 schools and programs, including 6 high schools, 6 middle schools, 6 K-8 schools, 13 elementary schools, and 4 alternative education programs, serving approximately 19,000 students Pre-K–12. Of these students, 82.3% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch, 20.1% are served by the Office of Special Education, and 83% are students of color. REPORTS TO: Director of Professional Development Impact Coaches focus on the HOW of teaching. They personalize support for educators. Impact Coaches design instruction WITH educators to meet the needs of all students, sharing research-based instructional strategies and developing pedagogical practices. The role of the Impact Coach is to provide direct to teacher support to improve student achievement by building educator capacity through Impact Coaching Cycles. The Impact Coaching Cycle may include modeling, co-planning, co-teaching, and providing feedback to educators. Impact Coaches also create and deliver professional development informed by coaching cycle trends, district walkthroughs, and other data. Impact Coaches demonstrate a working knowledge of standards-based learning, data analysis, Personalized Learning and culturally responsive practices, social justice, and the effective use of technology to support instruction. Impact Coaches model continuous learning for professional growth. Impact Coaches build strong relationships with educators, leaders, and other coaches. They are collaborative, flexible, and innovative team players.

Requirements

  • Must be a current SCSD Teacher
  • Holds current professional or permanent New York State teacher certification
  • Receipt of Highly Effective or Effective ratings for two consecutive years
  • Has experience in developing and implementing professional development programs or working with others to provide timely, directed feedback

Responsibilities

  • Provide ongoing, sustained coaching and support to assigned educators, including weekly visits, coaching cycles, and professional development
  • Adhere to the Impact Cycle model of coaching
  • Build strong relationships with educators
  • Maintain confidentiality between educator and coach
  • Support educators in using data to improve instruction
  • Assist teachers in planning differentiated lessons and selecting best practices
  • Model a wide variety of instructional strategies
  • Provide job embedded professional learning opportunities
  • Engage teachers in the reflection process
  • Collaborate with the Professional Development Liaisons to design data-informed professional learning opportunities
  • Present and or train others to present professional development packages
  • Utilize adult learning theory to motivate educators to improve their practice
  • Model design thinking and inquiry cycles in professional development designs
  • Model research-based practices
  • Facilitate a variety of professional learning structures such as PLCs, learning walks, lesson study/lab, action research, PDSA cycles, etc.
  • Represent the district at meetings, programs, conferences, and conventions
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of work
  • Complete administrative tasks related to all the above, including but not limited to room scheduling, appointment calendars, record keeping, and report writing
  • Complete additional duties as assigned by the Deputy Chief of Professional Learning and Growth and the Directors of Professional Development
