About The Position

RESPONSIBILITIES: The Immigration Specialist will serve as primary contact for the international students and faculty; supervise the tracking of international students and scholars in the SEVIS system; advise international students and scholars on visa related issues; direct and facilitate WIU compliance with U.S. immigration regulations and policies; serve as senior immigration adviser and SEVIS trainer; and is responsible for the pre-enrollment advising and academic admission for international students. This position interprets U.S. immigration regulations: serves as consultant on F-1 and J-1 visas; facilitates and signs immigration documents as the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) or Responsible Officer (RO). WORK LOCATION: Macomb campus

Requirements

  • One (1) year (12 months) of responsible work experience in immigration counseling and visa application filing or in a higher education setting performing international student/scholar advising, international student recruitment or international student admissions
  • Any one or any combination of the following, totaling three (3) years (36 months) from the categories below: A. Progressively more responsible work experience in immigration counseling and visa application filing or in a higher education setting performing international student/scholar advising, international student recruitment, or international student admissions B. College coursework leading to a major in business administration, education administration, one of the social or behavioral sciences, a foreign language or one related to foreign affairs/service 60 semester hours equal one (1) year/12 months 90 semester hours equal two (2) years/24 months 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's degree equals three (3) years/36 months
  • Note: A Master's degree in Education Administration, Counseling, International Relations, International Development, Cross Cultural Communication or Communications meets Credential #2.
  • For a degree to be considered, it must be conferred from a regionally accredited degree-granting institution of higher education (or equivalent from an international accrediting body). The degree must be conferred at the time of application.
