The Immigration Program Manager at Virginia Tech will oversee the Global Strategic Services (GSS) organization, focusing on the recruitment and retention of global faculty and researchers. This role involves managing employment-based visa petitions, coordinating with various university departments, and developing cultural programming for J-1 visa participants. The position requires strong organizational and communication skills, as well as the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Manage employment-based nonimmigrant and immigrant visa petitions for faculty and staff.
  • Coordinate filing of immigration petitions with USCIS and labor certification applications with the Department of Labor.
  • Work with university departments to arrange ad placements and recruitment for labor certification applications.
  • Organize physical immigration files and transition to paperless file retention.
  • Serve as the primary contact with the university payroll office to confirm work authorized status of foreign national faculty/staff.
  • Assist in the development and management of cultural programming for the J-1 visa program.
  • Market programs and activities to the target population and evaluate for improvements.
  • Act as back-up Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) for the J-1 program.
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Extensive experience as an immigration paralegal or similar position, specifically with employment-based visa petitions
  • Experience using immigration case management software
  • Experience working in a professional team environment
  • Ability to independently perform complex tasks
  • Strong interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Experience in comprehending, analyzing, and applying immigration regulations
  • Must be a United States Citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident.
