About The Position

The Imaging Assistant performs a variety of administrative duties including computer work, telephone communication, faxing reports, facilitating supply requisitions, and processing medical records and documenting therein as appropriate. The role also involves clinical responsibilities such as escorting patients to and from dressing areas, assisting with patient positioning for exams, stocking supplies in exam rooms, film printing, matching films, and hanging films. The assistant relies on established guidelines to accomplish tasks and works under close supervision.

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients upon entrance to Center in a professional, caring manner, handle stressful conditions while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Maintain film folders in a neat and orderly manner for easy retrieval.
  • Accurately complete all phone report/film requests, pull correct films, send with courier service, and produce high-quality film copies.
  • Prepare film for interpretation, hang film, and enter cases to be read on mammobase into appropriate software.
  • Properly and safely escort patients, check patients for proper ID, check order on chart before bringing patient to dressing area, and assist patient with undressing/dressing if needed.
  • Verify forms for accuracy and completion with patient before giving to the mammography tech, and assist mammography tech with patient positioning if needed.
  • Keep equipment in clean and operating order, reporting problems such as malfunctioning equipment to the Senior Mammography Tech or Coordinator immediately.
  • Create and enter sessions in the Softcopy Workstations and effectively coordinate flow with the mammobase system for Radiologists.
  • Provide assistance to the Radiologist to troubleshoot any issues during the reading session as needed.
  • Check transcriptions several times a day for reports to be distributed to physicians, Coordinator, and patient jackets; print out and correctly place dictated reports from mammobase on charts daily.
  • Verify the schedule for screening mammograms and request films from other facilities as needed, ensuring outside films are available before the exam for radiologist review.
  • Provide assistance to physicians with films, reports, or locating Radiologists, ensuring their needs are promptly met.
  • Obtain releases to send or obtain films from outside facilities following established guidelines.
  • Submit supply requisitions following established guidelines and stock supplies in the Center to be readily available for staff/physicians.
  • Remove and place films in proper jackets after being read.
  • Retrieve and follow up with films from previous exams on scheduled patients.
  • Receive and check in film back into the Center.
  • Return all outside film used in consultation correctly and in a timely manner.
  • Receive, document, and file all films.
  • Document return of records appropriately.
  • Pull and package all films to be mailed for pick up by courier; keep an accurate log of all film jackets that leave the Center for outside consultation and their return.
  • Accurately enter data into the MARS system by pre-logging and logging requests into the system.
  • Complete other duties as assigned or requested.
