About The Position

The Image Review Technician supports mapping, data maintenance, validation, and inspection activities for electric utility asset systems while ensuring the quality and completeness of drone‑captured inspection imagery for the Transmission Tower/Pole AirPlus program. This role safeguards the accuracy, integrity, and linkages between imagery, spatial features, and asset attributes to enable utility planning, operations, regulatory compliance, and risk management. The technician collaborates closely with program managers, data managers, and quality teams to drive image intake, QA/QC, GIS editing, and continuous workflow improvements in a regulated utility environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in GIS, Geography, Geospatial Science, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent professional experience.
  • 1–3 years of professional experience in GIS, image review/inspection support, mapping, or asset data workflows.
  • Experience handling large volumes of digital imagery and performing structured quality checks.
  • Proficiency with enterprise GIS platforms and spatial data editing (e.g., ArcGIS Pro/Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, or QGIS).
  • Strong visual attention to detail; ability to detect quality issues in imagery and data discrepancies.
  • Ability to follow defined processes, standards, and documentation in a compliance‑driven environment.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; capable of managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working in a fast‑paced setting with cross‑functional stakeholders.

Nice To Haves

  • Utility/energy sector exposure, especially electric transmission inspection programs.
  • Familiarity with drone imagery and aerial capture practices; experience with imagery tools (e.g., ExifTool, basic photo viewers/editors).
  • Experience with asset management systems (e.g., Maximo, SAP PM) and regulated/compliance environments.
  • Exposure to automation (e.g., ModelBuilder or basic Python for ArcGIS) and reporting tools (e.g., dashboards).

Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed quality reviews of drone imagery for transmission towers, poles, and related structures.
  • Verify completeness of required image sets (e.g., tower ID shots, full‑structure, component close‑ups, right‑of‑way context), and adherence to capture checklists.
  • Assess clarity, resolution, framing, orientation, lighting, and absence of obstructions to ensure images meet inspection standards.
  • Confirm metadata presence and correctness (e.g., timestamp, GPS/geotag, altitude/heading when applicable); validate images are associated to the correct asset ID/structure.
  • Flag and document missing, low‑quality, or incorrect images; coordinate re‑capture requests with drone pilots and field teams.
  • Catalog, annotate, and version imagery in line with naming conventions and data retention standards.
  • Perform GIS editing and data remediation for electric utility assets (e.g., towers/poles, spans, attachments, access features).
  • Update and maintain spatial geometry and attribute data in accordance with defined standards, schemas, and workflows.
  • Maintain relationships that link images to assets and inspection records; ensure data integrity and traceability.
  • Support data cleanup initiatives to improve overall asset data quality and confidence.
  • Support validation workflows for field‑collected, legacy, or third-party data, ensuring consistency with system-of-record requirements.
  • Assist with ingestion of imagery and asset data into GIS and related systems (including metadata, indexing, and asset associations).
  • Identify gaps, inconsistencies, and errors; reconcile discrepancies and coordinate resolution with cross-functional teams.
  • Partner with quality, process, and program teams to support QA/QC gates and compliance requirements.
  • Participate in review cycles to ensure accuracy, completeness, and standards compliance for both imagery and GIS data.
  • Provide feedback on recurring image capture issues; contribute to continuous improvement of capture standards and review workflows.
