About The Position

Information Technology Services (ITS) at the University at Albany seeks individuals with the skills and desire to work in a dynamic and complex hybrid on-premises/cloud environment as an Identity and Access Management Specialist (IAM Specialist). This position is part of the group responsible for helping protect the university's systems, network and data by supporting critical services for account provisioning, deprovisioning, authentication and authorization. This is a two-year temporary position. The IAM Specialist collaborates with people and groups across the university, including other ITS service teams and key campus offices (Human Resources, Registrar, Financial Aid). They are expected to handle a wide variety of activities ranging from basic day-to-day support activities to participating in complex, long-range projects. The successful candidate is highly organized, attentive to detail, and adept at working independently or as part of a team.

Requirements

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple and changing priorities.
  • Provide scheduled support and consultation outside normal business hours, including occasional evenings, holidays, or weekends, within reasonable professional obligation and expectation.
  • Report to campus in-person on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and as needed. This position is eligible to telecommute on Tuesdays and Thursdays, following a probationary period and with supervisor approval.
  • A bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a U.S. Department of Education (DOE) or internationally recognized accrediting organization; or an associate's degree and a minimum of 2 years in information technology roles.
  • At least 1 year of experience managing identity and access functions, such as account provisioning and de-provisioning.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree from a college or University accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Experience working with application security configuration such as PeopleSoft or similar platforms.
  • Experience with directory services, including account and group security and structure.
  • Experience with multi-factor authentication services.
  • Experience with cloud-based identity and access management operations.
  • Experience with project management.

Responsibilities

  • Perform account administration activities including: account and access provisioning, faculty and staff terminations, department transfers, student academic life cycles, and exception processing.
  • Identify and research fraudulent authentication attempts.
  • Support and manage applications that provide self-service features and multi-factor authentication services.
  • Perform identity and access related security audits on directory services and security roles.
  • Provide second level support to troubleshoot and resolve identity and access management questions and problems.
  • Other reasonable duties as assigned.
