Program Overview: The Sallie Mae Internship program seeks to attract and develop exceptional early talent while adding value to our organization. Our goal is to tie academic learning into a practical business setting while fostering professional and personal growth within a student’s area of focus. Over the course of the summer, interns will gain exposure to senior leaders, attend meetings, work alongside mentors, and receive valuable performance feedback. What You'll Contribute: The IAM Cloud team internship provides the opportunity to learn how cloud identity is handled in an enterprise setting while maintaining alerting and security around developers and applications. This role focuses heavily on maintaining the security, compliance, and operational efficiency of our IAM framework, ensuring users and resources have the right level of access at the right time. You will collaborate with security, DevOps, and compliance teams to implement least-privilege access, automate permissions, and respond to alerts and incidents. What You'll Do: Maintain and update AWS permissions code library. Create users and roles in AWS and Microsoft Azure. Implement automation using PowerShell, and Python. Respond and assist with security alerts and incidents. Requirements

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity or related technical field
  • Open to undergraduate or graduate level students
  • Availability: This is a 10-week internship and expectations for a 40-hour work week for the following dates 5/26/26-7/31/2026. We follow a 3 day flexible in office policy in Indianapolis office; designated housing is included in offer package for the internship dates outlined above.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills with individuals at all levels.
  • Excellent administrative skills including proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint and web-based applications.
  • Strong follow through and multi-tasking skills, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and update AWS permissions code library.
  • Create users and roles in AWS and Microsoft Azure.
  • Implement automation using PowerShell, and Python.
  • Respond and assist with security alerts and incidents.
