About The Position

The Hamilton County Sheriff's Office (HCSO), founded in 1803, is the 3rd largest sheriff's office in Ohio, employing approximately 900 individuals dedicated to ensuring the safety of nearly 1 million Hamilton County residents. Identification Technicians, working under the protection of Correction Officers, perform various clerical duties related to booking arrestees and inmates at the Hamilton County Jail Center.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED equivalent
  • Must be at least 19 years of age, of good moral character
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Must not have been convicted of a misdemeanor involving immoral character or any felony
  • Must submit to a criminal and personal background check
  • Must be able to speak, read, and write the English language
  • Must be able to clearly and effectively communicate (written and verbal) with co-workers, supervisor, law enforcement agencies, and members of the public
  • Ability to lift 10 – 20lbs and stand for extended periods of time (10 – 30 minutes)
  • Must have basic office skills – computer, copier, etc.
  • Must type a minimum of 30 wpm accurately
  • Must be able to analyze data in order to classify fingerprints
  • Previous customer service experience and the ability to professionally deal with difficult people at times

Responsibilities

  • Gather arrest and booking documentation, fingerprints, and mug shots
  • Process incoming inmates and arrestees
  • Collect medical history during intake, including DNA samples as required by law
  • Alert Intake Officers of medical emergencies, injuries, claims by new arrestee, suicidal tendencies, or other pertinent information
  • Assist law enforcement community by accurately and completely gathering biometric data to assist in the positive identification of an individual who has been arrested
  • Perform a variety of clerical tasks to assist with the efficient operation of the department (e.g., operate computer, prepare and mail form/documents, file, answer phones, etc.)
  • Assist other Law Enforcement Agencies or other agencies or officials with fingerprint requests
