About The Position

HF Sinclair in Artesia, NM is seeking an I&E Reliability Superintendent. This position oversees and directs the Instrument and Electrical (I&E) Reliability Department and leads the development of data-driven systems and work processes to drive reliability improvements. Responsible for overseeing and maintaining high/medium voltage electrical systems (e.g., switchgear, Variable Frequency Drives, transformers) and instrumentation systems. Works closely with maintenance, construction, DCS, and engineering teams to achieve reliability excellence and operational readiness. Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 10 years industrial maintenance/craft experience and/or equivalent engineering experience is required.
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Electrical Engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience is required.
  • Ability to lead and direct a workforce of maintenance staff, contractors and craftsmen or other associates.
  • May require special training in a combination of the following depending on craft: Fiber Optics, Electrical & Instrumentation, Laser alignment, and equipment operation.
  • May require certification in any or all of the following: Certification in Level II ISA, Measurement & Controls, Fundamental of Management/Supervisor, Control System & P/CConfiguration.
  • Strong organizational skills; good computer and multi-tasking skills.
  • Working knowledge of various functions including maintenance supervision, maintenance planning/scheduling, maintenance field execution, turnarounds, maintenance reliability, contract administration, and project management.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with others, both written and verbal communication, basic reading and writing skills, with the ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.

Nice To Haves

  • Electrical Engineering degree strongly preferred; experience with instrumentation systems is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures electrical and instrumentation systems are available, reliable, and capable of meeting design specifications; expedites restoration when design duty cannot be achieved.
  • Develops and implements predictive (PdM) and preventive (PM) maintenance programs for electrical and instrumentation assets across all sites using SAP, including infrared & thermal imaging, electrical load analysis, and calibration programs for instrumentation.
  • Establishes and enforces best practices for electrical safety, instrumentation calibration, and system reliability.
  • Develops data-based systems and work processes to monitor performance, identify trends, and implement reliability improvements.
  • Monitors and reports team performance, project status, and reliability metrics to management on a regular basis.
  • Reviews electrical and instrumentation specifications for capital projects to ensure maintainability and compliance with standards.
  • Creates and maintains systems to track reliability metrics such as uptime/downtime, PM vs. reactive maintenance, backlog, and cost performance.
  • Develops commissioning and acceptance testing procedures for electrical and instrumentation systems to ensure smooth transition of new projects into operations.
  • Assists with planning and start-up of new facilities and systems, ensuring readiness and compliance with operational standards.
  • Oversees team execution of root cause failure analysis (RCFA) for electrical and instrumentation failures; may personally lead RCFA for higher complexity events.
  • Oversees team coordination with procurement to maintain adequate spare parts inventory; may directly manage critical spares for complex or high-risk systems.
  • Identifies and estimates cost for reliability improvement projects aimed at reducing downtime and optimizing asset performance.
  • Special assignments or tasks assigned by the superior, as determined from time to time in their sole and complete discretion.
