TUOLUMNE ME-WUK INDIAN HEALTH CENTER POSITION DESCRIPTION POSITION TITLE: Dental Hygienist - Temporary REPORTS TO: Dental Director SUPERVISES: None POSITION STATUS: None-Exempt BENEFITS: Per Policy UPDATED: August 25, 2021 POSITION SUMMARY: POSITION SUMMARY: Under general and direct supervision, assist dentists in providing oral health care to patients; develop and conduct an educational preventive oral health program for patients; take digital dental radiographs.

Requirements

  • Must have a current, valid Dental Hygienist license issued by the California Dental Board
  • One-year of prior work experience, preferably in a clinic setting.
  • Must possess and maintain valid CPR certification.
  • Must possess periodontal soft tissue curettage certification.
  • Must have the ability to work in an independent and self-directed manner and assume individual initiative.
  • Must be willing and have the ability to accept supervision and to follow directions.
  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; and the ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Must possess sufficient written and verbal communication skills to be able to interact with medical professionals, vendors, and agencies in a professional manner, developing rapport and enhancing business relationships.
  • Must have legible handwriting.
  • Experience with and the ability to operate Microsoft Office software is required.
  • Must possess skill in using computers and other office equipment; in composing correspondence; managing filing systems; gathering and summarizing information; and in planning, organizing, prioritizing, and executing complicated and continuing assignments.
  • Must have the ability to correctly enter information and narratives in the electronic health record system.
  • Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive matters with discretion and tact.
  • Must have a general knowledge of and the ability to maintain HIPAA privacy requirements.
  • Must sign a confidentiality statement.
  • Must have the ability to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with the Dentrix and RPMS computer systems is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a current Dental Hygiene License, including participating in Continuing Education Courses.
  • Per Dental Board of California Section 1088 and 1910, perform the following RDH duties under general supervision: Periodontal charting; Oral prophylaxis; Scaling and Root Planing; Intra and Extraoral examination of soft tissue; Application of topical, therapeutic, and subgingival agents used for the control of caries and periodontal disease (including fluoride) Application of non-aerosol and non-caustic topical agents; Pit and fissure sealants; Irrigate sub-gingivally with an antimicrobial and/or antibiotic liquid solution(s). Polish and contour restorations; Oral exfoliative cytology.
  • Per the Dental Board of California Section 1909, perform the following RDH duties under direct supervision. Periodontal soft tissue curettage; Administration of local anesthesia; Placement of antimicrobial or antibiotic medications which do not later have to be removed; Understanding of Insurance Coverage as follows.
  • General knowledge of Direct Care, CHS, and SHCF coverage (with training provided by TMWIHC staff); General knowledge of Medi-Cal and CMSP coverage; General knowledge of Private Insurance coverage and pre-authorization requirements; Understanding that an individual’s insurance coverage does not change the recommended treatment
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
