About The Position

Dewberry is seeking an experienced and innovative Hydrologist to join our Resilience Solutions Group. This role focuses on advancing the state of the science in inland hydrology and hydrometeorology to improve water resources engineering, planning, and design. The ideal candidate will apply deep technical expertise in hydrology, statistics, and risk analysis to design and develop advanced scientific workflows and cloud-based systems. They will also collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, scientists, planners, and software developers to deliver impactful, data-driven resilience solutions for federal, state, and local clients. Requirements

  • Candidates must demonstrate knowledge and expertise in performing complex hydrologic analysis using software. Preferred candidates will have experience evaluating watershed dynamics in the context of extreme events, including fundamental understanding of inter-relationships between atmospheric science and hydrology in the natural and built environments.
  • BS, MS, or PhD in civil engineering with a concentration in water resources, hydrologic science, or atmospheric science.
  • Expertise in hydrologic modeling with 5+ years of experience working in the industry.
  • Expertise in development, calibration, and validation of event and continuous hydrologic models such as HEC-HMS, WRF-Hydro, SWAT, VIC, PRMS, HSPF, etc. with 5+ years of HEC-HMS model development experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in obtaining, manipulating, and verifying meteorological data from a variety of observational and modeled data sources.
  • Familiarity with federal flood frequency guidance (Bulletin 17C) and experience in applying it using tools such as HEC-SSP.
  • Knowledge of statistical modeling and simulation techniques and their application to hydrologic and atmospheric data.
  • Experience in GIS for visualization, manipulation, and quality control of geospatial and meteorological data.
  • Coding capabilities with Python.
  • Strong technical writing and communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Professional Hydrologist (PH)
  • Experience with numerical weather models and/or climate models and outputs
  • Experience with reservoir operations modeling and reservoir systems analysis
  • Experience with stochastic storm transposition
  • Experience with cloud-based systems

  • Leverage expertise in hydrologic analysis to lead or support technical needs of diverse projects across the municipal, state, and federal markets.
  • Lead or contribute to the development of analytical approaches to meet project requirements.
  • Productively collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, planners, and scientists for integrated project delivery.
  • Participate in client and public engagement meetings.
  • Develop reports, provide formal and informal presentations to clients.
  • Demonstrate subject matter leadership and professional development through external publications and professional organizations.
