About The Position

The PMT-II HVACR Technician will operate, monitor, service and/or repair Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) systems, and associated hardware for all CU Anschutz Campus buildings. The technician will respond to emergency calls pertaining to HVACR problems and emergencies throughout the campus. This position helps to ensure the safest and most efficient operation of equipment for the HVACR systems at CU Anschutz. Requirements

  • Three years of experience in the HVACR industry.
  • EPA Universal Certification in order to work with refrigerants on all types of equipment. If applicant does not currently possess a Universal (Type 1, 2, and 3), then applicant must agree to obtain it within 6 months of hire.
  • Must possess and maintain a current, valid State of Colorado Driver’s License
  • Must be willing and able to pass a criminal background check, motor vehicle check and drug test
  • Subject to pre-employment, post-accident or incident or reasonable suspicion drug and alcohol testing per UCD Facilities Operations Department Policies
  • Must be willing and able to stand and walk on a constant basis, with or without accommodation

Nice To Haves

  • At least four years of experience in the HVACR industry.
  • Commercial HVACR experience.
  • Experience with medium and/or low temperature refrigeration applications.
  • Experience working with chillers.
  • Experience with large motor and bearing repairs – 10HP and above.
  • This position requires the ability to work and communicate with customers, peers, and trades helpers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to establish rapport with persons of diverse backgrounds.

  • Mechanical ability\: able to learn how to diagnose and troubleshoot the problem, and be able to fix it.
  • Physical ability that meets the physical requirements assessment for the position

Responsibilities

  • Completes work requests for preventive maintenance and repairs to refrigeration systems.
  • Inspects, replaces, adjusts, programs, and calibrates electronic and refrigeration controls and components.
  • Install, repair, and replace systems and components. Systems include 4°C to 37°C environmental rooms, process chillers, and walk-in freezers.
  • Operates university vehicles to transport equipment and tools to work sites.
  • Records maintenance data in a computer.
  • Completes work requests for preventive maintenance, repairs, and installations to building and occupant owned heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC) systems, components, and controls.
  • Operates university vehicles to transport equipment and tools to work sites.
  • Records work performed in a work order data system. Types of systems includes\: package systems, split systems, chillers, CRAC units, AHUs, FCUs, RTU’s, exhaust fans, humidifiers, furnaces, and snow-Melter.
  • Uses servicing and recovery equipment to recover CFC, HCFC, and HFC type refrigerants, while following EPA guidelines. Stores and reuses all types of refrigerants. Participates in and monitors the refrigerant recovery program. Enters information into a database, and maintains hard-copy records of all refrigerant handling activities. Accurately weighs and records tank tare weights and gross weights. Performs mathematical functions to correctly and accurately calculate amounts used.
  • Provides training and assistance to other employees.
  • Participate and assist in emergencies based on the magnitude and nature. Supports various special events both in preparation and during the event.
