About The Position

IAM Hourly represented employees who currently work at the main (Sunnyvale/Palo Alto) unit, Santa Cruz, VAFB or Eastern Range facilities must apply to open requisitions on Brass Ring to be considered for the position. This role involves independently determining and performing corrective actions for plant air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration systems and equipment, including cascade systems, Building Automation systems (BAS), steam boiler, and gas-fired heating equipment. Responsibilities also include reworking, servicing, maintaining refrigerant equipment, HVAC control systems, modifying, troubleshooting, and repairing centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, hot water boilers, and air handling systems at a system level according to manufacturing recommendations and management directives. The technician will utilize various tools, test equipment, instruments, machinery, software patches, and diagnostics to ensure operational status. They will also provide missing design details or make approved design changes to improve unit performance or maintenance. Collaboration with other crafts, engineers, and vendors is required to address design corrections and operational issues in industrial office building and clean room HVAC systems. The position requires operating automated controls, software, and computerized equipment for repairs and assisting other maintenance crafts as needed. Work may involve various heights. Requirements

  • Complete knowledge of boiler, chiller and building automated electronic control systems; complex refrigeration systems including test chambers, two stage screw compressors and complex HVAC systems that supply controlled temperature, humidity and pressure to clean room environments.
  • Must possess ability to check out operational and functional components of entire building HVAC systems as required to maintain, repair and operate to original manufacture’s specifications.
  • Must have successfully completed required training as an HVAC Technician - Trainee.
  • Must possess a valid State of California Class C Driver’s License, if required.
  • Must possess, or obtain within 90 days, all LMMS-issued safety licenses required by law to operate material handling equipment and vehicles normally used by employees in this classification.
  • Must possess Universal Refrigeration Reclaim license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret security clearance.
  • Must be a US Citizen for consideration (for security clearance).

Responsibilities

  • Independently determine and perform the corrective action necessary for continued operation of plant air conditioning, ventilation and refrigeration systems and equipment including cascade systems, Building Automation systems (BAS) and steam boiler, gas- fired heating equipment.
  • Rework, service, maintain refrigerant equipment, HVAC control systems, modify, troubleshoot and repair centrifugal chillers, cooling towers, hot water boilers and air handling systems at a system level per manufacturing recommendations and management directives.
  • Use all necessary tools, test equipment and instruments, machinery, software patches and diagnostics to facilitate operational status.
  • Provide missing design details, and/or make changes in designs, subject to approval, where units do not meet functional demands, or where changes will facilitate the performance or maintenance of such units.
  • Work with other crafts, engineers, vendors and others to assist in design correction and operational inequities of industrial office building and clean room heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Operate automated controls and software and computerized equipment to locate and check out repairs.
  • Work with, or assist, maintenance crafts in other fields of specialization when so required.
