About The Position

Performs maintenance on various piping systems and HVAC equipment in accordance with district policy and state and local standards. The essential functions as shown below represent only the key areas of responsibility; specific position requirements will vary depending on the needs of the facility services department.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or HiSET.
  • Journeyperson license in HVAC and/or mechanical with State of Iowa.
  • EPA section 608 Technician Certification for refrigeration.
  • Five years’ work experience in HVAC service.
  • Three years’ work experience with roof top unit repair, maintenance, and programming.
  • Working knowledge of water treatment in open and closed loop systems.
  • Valid driver’s license and motor vehicle record aligned with District guidelines at all times.
  • Proficient computer skills, including but not limited to Microsoft Office products and vender specific software.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Competency wo rking in a culturally diverse environment or the willingness to acquire these skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to read blueprints and calculate materials
  • Masters license in mechanical or HVAC with state of Iowa

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance on chiller and/or reciprocating compressor systems, including chiller tube cleaning, teardown and rebuild.
  • Replaces belts, fixtures, and performs general maintenance of air handler units.
  • Installs, maintains, and repairs ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment.
  • Diagnoses and repairs electrical and mechanical faults on HVAC systems.
  • Uses organizational skills to successfully prioritize workload and solve problems.
  • Performs maintenance on cooling towers including annual startup and shut down of cooling towers.
  • Installs and maintains water source heat pumps.
  • Performs maintenance and troubleshooting using building automation systems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and installs hot and cold-water piping systems.
  • Performs maintenance on steam and hot water boiler systems.
  • Assembles and sets piping for instruments, measuring devices, thermostatic controls used in heating and air conditioning systems.
  • Performs maintenance and troubleshooting using building automation systems.
  • Keeps daily logs and records of all maintenance functions.
  • Required to be on call 24/7.
  • Utilize Districts computerized maintenance management systems for tracking work history, assignments and completion.
  • Carries out all the policies and procedures set forth for building operational personnel and facility management.
  • Demonstrates leadership, communications, and organizational ability
  • Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Maintain satisfactory and harmonious working relationships with the public, students, and other employees.
  • Assist with other duties as may be assigned
