Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • HVAC certification and valid driver’s license required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of technical trade experience in HVAC or mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of hospital HVAC systems, including air handling units, chillers, boilers, pneumatic controls, and geothermal systems.
  • Proficiency with building automation systems (BAS) and energy management controls for monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimizing equipment.
  • Demonstrated mechanical, electrical, and troubleshooting skills to repair, maintain, and optimize complex HVAC systems.
  • Familiarity with OSHA, infection control, and safety protocols, including proper refrigerant handling and safe work practices.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks safely, including lifting heavy equipment, working in confined spaces, and standing or climbing for extended periods.
  • Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently, coordinate with hospital staff, and respond to on-call or emergency situations.

Nice To Haves

  • EPA 608 certification is preferred.
  • Hospital or commercial facility experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees, maintains, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs HVAC and geothermal systems, including components such as bearings, motors, heat exchangers, compressors, valves, and related mechanical equipment.
  • Analyzes system performance and diagnoses issues promptly to minimize downtime and maintain optimal climate control and energy efficiency.
  • Monitors and queries building automation and control systems related to energy management, adjusting settings to support preventative maintenance and operational goals.
  • Performs routine inspections, preventive maintenance, and repairs to ensure HVAC systems meet safety, efficiency, and regulatory standards.
  • Collaborates with facility management and other trades to coordinate repairs, installations, and system upgrades while maintaining clear communication and documentation.
  • Maintains compliance with all safety protocols, manufacturer guidelines, and applicable codes, including environmental and refrigerant handling regulations.
  • Keeps accurate records of maintenance activities, service calls, and parts inventory to support budgeting and operational planning.
