About The Position

This work involves supervising the work of a Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Shop. This position is located in the Facilities Maintenance Department of Operations and Facilities at Florida State Hospital.

Requirements

  • Communication skills are required as well as, planning and directing work;
  • Freon certification; experienced supervisor;
  • Ability to train and instruct while performing duties of position.
  • Incumbent is required to operate a state vehicle and transport equipment/material to appropriate areas when necessary for job assignments.
  • Must possess and maintain a Class “E” driver’s license
  • A high school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred. One to two years’ experience in Facility Services.
  • Ability to communicate (both verbal and written) effectively. Ability to apply elementary math functions.
  • Ability to work well under time constraints.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed, but uninvolved written or oral instructions.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for communicating with, motivating, training, and evaluating employees.
  • Responsible for planning and directing subordinates work.
  • Plan workloads, workflows, deadlines, work objectives and time utilization with employees.
  • Coordinates with the Service Response Center all work progress and completion in a timely manner.
  • Coordinates purchases all necessary materials and equipment, maintains inventory records.
  • Evaluate employees through establishing evaluation criteria and responsibilities and meeting regularly with employees to insure the pre-established criteria are met.
  • Trains employees in methods for performing an effective and efficient job.
  • Instructs and trains personnel in procedures and methods that would keep all HVAC/R systems in optimum working order and improve the efficiency of these systems.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with employees both individually and in staff meetings.
  • Direct the work of employees to ensure maximum use of time and resources. Supervise staff in the proper operation and maintenance of all HVAC/R systems. Including all related equipment. Other specific work responsibilities include vacuum pumps, purge units, air compressors, pneumatic and electric controls, filters and screens, food storage rooms, air conditioners, refrigeration equipment including their electric motors and controls.
  • Manage the HVAC/R preventive maintenance program.
  • Direct staff in the use of machine shop equipment, including hydraulic presses, die cutting machines, drill presses, etc. as it relates to HVAC maintenance and preventive maintenance.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.
