About The Position

The Heating, Ventilation, and Air-Conditioning (HVAC) Mechanic operates, maintains, and/or repairs all HVAC equipment and systems at the CMI customer site in Laredo, TX.

Requirements

  • Refrigeration Operator Certification, and one or more of the following certifications and equivalent experience:
  • North American Technician Excellence (NATE) HVAC Service Technician Certification
  • HVAC Excellence Professional Level Certification
  • UA Star HVAC Mastery Certification
  • Union workers provide Journeyman certifications
  • Must possess EPA 608 Certification, A/C
  • Must maintain a minimum of 16 hours of continuing education per year from either NATE, HVAC Excellence, or UA Star recognized provider programs.
  • High Knowledge in HVAC, chillers, and controls, pumps heat exchanger
  • Good understanding of 300 to 800 ton chillers and their operations and annual PMs
  • Knowledge of hydronic system closed loops heating and chilled loops
  • Knowledge of ceramic pump seals
  • Experience with electrical high and low voltage A/C D/C
  • Experience with low pressure vessels boilers
  • Experience with plumbing repairs
  • Knowledge on building automation operations
  • Knowledge of motor control system
  • Knowledge of fire alarm and life safety standards, to include system testing
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance program
  • Must be able to pass a government background check

Responsibilities

  • Installs, services and repairs environmental-control systems in residences, department stores, office buildings, and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout, mounts compressor and condenser units on platform or floor, using hand tools.
  • Follows blueprints or engineering specifications to fabricate, assemble and install ductwork and chassis parts
  • Using portable metalworking tools and welding equipment, installs evaporator units in chassis or in air-duct system, using hand tools.
  • Cuts and bends tubing to correct length and shape, using cutting and bending equipment and tools, cuts and threads pipe, using machine threading or hand-threading equipment.
  • Joins tubing or pipes to various refrigerating units by means of sleeves, couplings or unions, and solders joints, using torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant, install expansion and discharge valves in circuit.
  • Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls, and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
  • Installs air and water filters in completed installation, injects small amount of refrigerant into compressor to test systems and adds Freon gas to build up prescribed operating pressure.
  • Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to insure proper operation, tests joints and connections for gas leaks, using gauges or soap-and-water solution
  • Wraps pipes in insulation batting and secures them in place with cement or wire bands.
  • Replaces defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses and electrical wiring to repair installed units
  • May install, repair and service air conditioners, ranging from fifteen to twenty tons cooling capacity in warehouses and small factory buildings.
