About The Position

Bridgewater College seeks a full-time HVAC mechanic. The HVAC mechanic is responsible for maintaining, installing, and repairing heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including campus steam distribution equipment. The position will generally work 38 hours per week, Monday through Friday with occasional overtime and weekends.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2+ years of HVAC work experience required.
  • CFC Certification required.
  • Practical and applied knowledge of materials and tools utilized in HVAC trades required.
  • Valid VA driver’s license in good standing as required by the BC driver policy required.

Nice To Haves

  • Journeyman Gas Fitter Certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintains a working climate by installing, repairing, and servicing heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC)systems.
  • Keeps equipment, systems, and buildings ready for use by completing preventive maintenance schedules.
  • Restores and repairs faulty or inoperative HVAC systems and associated equipment.
  • Recommends changes and new HVAC installations.
  • Complies with local, state, and federal codes and standards.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by following procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Maintains HVAC maintenance parts and equipment inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed parts and equipment; verifying receipt of parts and equipment.
  • Schedules and accomplishes assigned preventative maintenance programs in accordance with established directions and procedures.
  • Maintains, services, and repairs hydraulic, air, gas, distilled water, and steam lines.
  • Supports and assists the electricians in repair, replacement, maintenance, and/or installation of equipment and system components.
  • Completes automated and manual work order assignments in a timely manner with appropriate documentation and follow-up.
  • Works from ladders and power lifts.
  • As a key member of the campus snow removal and emergency response teams, responds to weather conditions, maintains routine and emergency access, which includes operating trucks, equipment, and shovels to clear walkways, roads, and parking lots of snow and ice. Often this work requires working during nonstandard shifts with short notice.
  • Supports various campus and athletic events by handling setup and clean up, i.e., chairs, tables, tents, etc.
  • Perform other duties assigned.
