About The Position

Reporting to the HVAC Supervisor at a multi-custody male correctional facility, this position provides journey level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning and Refrigeration. Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: 1. Designing, installing services and repairing HVAC energy control management systems in renovations and construction. 2. Assisting in installing electrical conduit and wiring for HVAC electrical circuits. 3. Performing preventive maintenance. 4. Instructing lower level assistants and offenders in performing less technical repairs. 5. Providing technical guidance and support to other staff members in HVAC energy control management system. 6. Working by instruction from supervisor, by policies, the NC building code manuals, OSHA regulations, and safety policies. 7. Requiring great physical effort in the installation, repair and removal of HVAC systems. 8. Working with close custody and minimum custody offenders and having frequent contact with offenders as needed. 9. Performing repairs on equipment outside his/her specialty trade as needed. 10. Being diversified and having general knowledge of several trades.

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma AND three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
