About The Position

The NC Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 14,000 employees. It is responsible for safeguarding and preserving lives and property through prevention, protection, and preparation as well as the care, custody, and supervision of all adults sentenced for violating North Carolina laws. This department includes state prisons with custody, healthcare, and facility operations staff as well as probation/parole officers who supervised sentenced people in the community. Other divisions include Administration, Health Services, Rehabilitation & Reentry, Special Operations and the Post-Release Supervision & Parole Commission. We have a mission that matters! Reporting to the HVAC Supervisor, this position is primarily responsible for providing journey level work in the areas of Heating/Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, Hot Water Supply, Plumbing and Food Service Equipment at a multi-custody female correctional facility. Other responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Requirements

  • High School or General Educational Development (GED) certificate and three years of progressive experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.

Nice To Haves

  • Documented knowledge of practices, methods, materials and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, and repair of air-conditioning and refrigeration systems.

Responsibilities

  • Completing special repairs and assignments that are received by work orders from authorized personnel.
  • Identifying the cause of a problem and determining materials and tools and method of repair.
  • Carrying out repair procedures independently on most jobs.
  • Performing preventative maintenance functions as required and outlined in the preventative maintenance plans.
  • Training and/or supervising the work of offender workers as needed.
