About The Position

The HVAC Lab Assistant provides support to instructors and students in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration (HVACR) lab. This role is responsible for maintaining a safe and organized lab environment, preparing equipment and materials for instruction, and assisting students with hands-on learning activities that align with the program's curriculum, including residential and commercial refrigeration, gas and oil furnaces, heat pumps, electric furnaces, and air conditioning equipment.

Requirements

  • A graduate with a diploma in HVACR is required
  • Familiarity with HVACR tools, safety procedures, and industry standards.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and provide instructional support to students.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy equipment as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience in an educational setting is a plus but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist instructors in setting up and breaking down lab exercises, ensuring that equipment and tools are properly arranged for demonstrations and student practice.
  • Maintain an inventory of lab supplies, tools, and equipment, and report any shortages or necessary repairs to the appropriate personnel.
  • Ensure the lab area complies with safety regulations, including proper storage of hazardous materials and adherence to personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
  • Conduct routine inspections and minor maintenance on HVACR lab equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
  • Provide guidance to students on proper tool usage, troubleshooting techniques, and best practices in HVACR systems, including working with refrigerants, electrical circuits, and mechanical components.
  • Assist with the calibration and testing of HVACR components and systems as part of the training curriculum, including the use of voltmeters, thermometers, pressure gauges, and other testing devices.
  • Enforce lab rules and safety protocols, intervening when necessary to maintain a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Support instructors in grading hands-on assessments and providing feedback to students on their practical work.
  • Assist students in preparing for EPA certification exams by facilitating practice exercises related to refrigerant recovery, recycling, and reclaiming.
  • Keep lab workspaces clean, organized, and conducive to learning.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the educational objectives of the program.
