About The Position

The HVAC & Facilities Technician installs, maintains, and repairs commercial heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems, and performs maintenance on the facilities and mechanical equipment of the Lincoln Airport Authority and Industrial Park. This role is responsible for diagnosing complex mechanical and electrical issues, performing preventative maintenance, and supporting the efficient operation of large-scale systems such as chillers, boilers, and rooftop units. The Technician helps ensure that all airport buildings and infrastructure remain safe, functional, and well-maintained.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the basic principles of construction.
  • Knowledge and use of, or ability to learn, computer software programs.
  • Ability to safely navigate and observe construction sites without disrupting the construction process or creating safety risks.
  • Ability to report conditions and describe situations clearly and logically, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to exhibit independent judgment and initiative.
  • Ability to read, understand, and interpret technical instructions.
  • Ability to convey Lincoln Airport Authority direction/desires to contractors and vendors.
  • Considerable knowledge of airport operating hazards and safety precautions.
  • Must speak with clarity, write and read English fluently.
  • Exhibit a friendly, knowledgeable, and professional demeanor.
  • Must be able to work at heights of 80 feet.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school and extensive and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of experience servicing, repairing, and troubleshooting commercial HVAC systems, including chillers, boilers, and rooftop units (RTUs).
  • Experience working with building mechanical, electrical, and structural systems in a commercial, industrial, or public sector facility.
  • The employee must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment reference check, criminal history check, drug screening, and MVR (motor vehicle report), and other requirements as per Lincoln Airport Authority policy.
  • Any associated costs for the screenings will be covered by the Lincoln Airport Authority.
  • The employee must possess, when hired, and maintain while employed, a valid State of Nebraska driver’s license and be insurable under normal rates.
  • The employee must obtain a CDL license within six (6) months of hire and maintain it for the duration of employment.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in facilities maintenance, airport operations, or a large-scale campus environment (preferred but not required).

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose, adjust, repair, and service a wide variety of specialized commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems, including chillers, boilers, rooftop units (RTUs), air handlers, and associated electrical and mechanical components.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex mechanical and electrical issues in HVAC and facility systems, drawing upon advanced technical knowledge and strong diagnostic skills.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, and facility equipment to promote energy efficiency, reliability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Test equipment performance, identify defects, and ensure proper operation before returning systems to service.
  • Overhaul, service, and assemble hydraulic, compressed air, vacuum, pneumatic, and electrical control systems and components.
  • Repair and maintain building systems, including HVAC, water systems, electrical systems, doors, structural components, and other related airport and industrial park infrastructure.
  • Perform duties associated with the day-to-day operations and upkeep of the Lincoln Airport Authority and Industrial Park facilities.
  • Create and maintain accurate work orders, maintenance records, and project documentation in a timely and organized manner.
  • Operate various types of mowing, heavy, and construction equipment as needed to support facility operations.
  • Works well under pressure to meet project schedules and budget guidelines, and is flexible and available to work required overtime upon request.
  • Hours will vary during snow removal and emergencies.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position.
  • Other duties, tasks, and responsibilities may be assigned at any time.
