About The Position

The HVAC Engineer is responsible for the operation, maintenance, repair, and optimization of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and related building systems to ensure a safe, comfortable, and refined guest experience in alignment with Royal Sonesta luxury brand standards. This role supports 24/7 hotel operations through preventive maintenance, energy management, rapid response to service requests, and strict adherence to safety and compliance requirements.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or technical certification in HVAC, Mechanical Systems, or related field (Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
  • Minimum 3–5 years of HVAC experience in a hotel, resort, hospital, or large commercial facility
  • EPA Section 608 Universal Certification required
  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, controls, and indoor air quality
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE standards and applicable mechanical codes
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Guest-focused service mindset aligned with luxury hospitality standards
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, 24/7 environment
  • High attention to detail and safety awareness
  • Ability to lift, push, or pull up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to climb ladders, access rooftops, and work in confined spaces
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, and work for extended periods
  • Flexible schedule required, including mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and on-call shifts to support 24/7 operations.

Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, inspect, repair, and maintain facility systems, including: HVAC systems Lighting systems Fire and life-safety systems Environmental and building controls Emergency power and electrical systems Kitchen and refrigeration equipment Company vehicles and other mechanical systems
  • Perform maintenance and repairs throughout the property, including: Interior and exterior building areas Guest rooms, suites, and high-end furnishings Laundry, kitchen, and refrigeration equipment Water treatment systems, swimming pool, and spa-related equipment (where applicable)
  • Ensure assigned systems and equipment are fully operational and prepared to support uninterrupted luxury guest experiences
  • Execute preventive maintenance programs and assist with energy management initiatives to improve efficiency and reduce operating costs
  • Respond promptly, discreetly, and professionally to guest room temperature, air quality, and maintenance concerns
  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, blueprints, and technical manuals
  • Operate hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and computer-based maintenance systems
  • Accurately document all work performed by completing work orders thoroughly and in a timely manner
  • Coordinate repairs and room outages with Front Desk, Housekeeping, and Engineering to minimize guest impact
  • Identify, report, and resolve unsafe conditions or malfunctioning equipment promptly
  • Maintain strict compliance with OSHA, EPA, federal, state, and local regulations, as well as Royal Sonesta brand standards and property policies
  • Safeguard tools, supplies, equipment, furnishings, electronics, and other hotel assets through proper inventory and asset control procedures
  • Replenish supplies efficiently while minimizing waste
  • Maintain professional appearance and uniform standards consistent with Royal Sonesta luxury expectations
  • Promote teamwork and service excellence through daily communication and coordination with other departments
  • Perform additional duties as assigned and assist in other areas of the hotel as needed to support operations
  • Deliver a refined, personalized guest experience by anticipating individual needs and exceeding expectations
  • Consistently follow the Royal Sonesta GUEST Service Model: Greet all guests warmly and professionally Use eye and ear contact and guest names when appropriate Establish and anticipate guest needs Solve and take ownership of all guest requests and concerns Thank guests sincerely
  • Build strong professional relationships with colleagues by treating all team members with respect, discretion, and dignity
