POSITION OVERVIEW: This apprenticeship is designed for individuals committed to building a career in HVAC within a healthcare setting, where system reliability directly impacts patient safety. Under the HVAC Field Technician the HVAC apprentice will perform a diverse range of tasks that evolve as their skills develop. Initially, apprentices focus on observation and basic support functions, gradually taking on more complex responsibilities under supervision. The structured progression ensures apprentices build competency systematically while contributing meaningfully to project completion. Apprentices will learn to measure and cut ductwork, pipe, and tubing to specifications using hand tools and power equipment. Precision becomes critical as apprentices advance, as improperly sized components can compromise system efficiency and require costly corrections. Apprentices will assist with routine maintenance tasks like filter changes, cleaning coils, and checking refrigerant levels. When repairs are needed, apprentices observe diagnostic procedures and help replace faulty components, learning to identify common failure patterns and their solutions. Assists HVAC Field Technician with installing, service, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, replace and perform periodic maintenance and inspection on environmental control systems. Utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, control systems, pipe fitting, and structural layouts. Assists HVAC Field Technician and will learn to operate and maintain boilers and auxiliary equipment such as air compressors, electric generators and related equipment. Perform maintenance and preventative maintenance, operate and maintain all air conditioners, refrigerators, and freezers throughout medical center. Performs daily work orders that are assigned via the CMS Maintenance ticketing system or by Senior Director of Support Services. (i.e. replacing ceiling tiles, assists with departmental moves, groundskeeping). Performs weekly, monthly, and annual preventative maintenance tickets to be compliant with local, state, and federal regulations. (i.e. generator testing, inspecting fire life safety equipment, medical gas checks,)
