About The Position

The Division of State Operated Healthcare Facilities (DSOHF) is seeking an experienced, strategic, relationship-centered Facility Director for Murdoch State Developmental Center (SDC), a Center for Medicaid Services certified Intermediate Care Facility for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities (ICF/IID) serving the central region of NC. Murdoch Developmental Center is located in Butner, NC. Murdoch SDC provides comprehensive, person-centered services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) who have complex behavioral and/or medical support needs. The SDC also operates specialized statewide programs for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and adolescents with co-occurring developmental disabilities and mental illness, along with an interdisciplinary clinic to provide recommendations to maintain community placement. This position requires considerable written and verbal communication skills, interpersonal skills, ability to analyze and problem solve difficult situations; prior record of establishing and maintaining successful working relationships with consumers, families, advocates, stakeholders, community leaders, and other agencies serving people with I/DD and other disabilities; ability to exercise clear administrative, financial and clinical judgment; and knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying federal and state statutes. This position reports to the DSOHF Assistant Director for the Residential Treatment Centers and is responsible for shaping the center's strategic direction, fostering a culture of excellence, and ensuring the highest standards of care and service delivery. A successful candidate is an experienced, strategic leader with a deep commitment to serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and their families.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of the service needs for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and/or standards for service delivery.
  • Knowledge of residential facility management and administration theories, methods, and/or practices.
  • Demonstrated administrative/managerial experience in a local, state and/or federal government program of service delivery for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
  • Ability to direct the establishment of facility goals and priorities and to determine appropriate allocation of resources.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form to establish effective working relationships with central office administration, other state operated facilities and agencies, local agency directors, community leaders, representatives of advocacy and association groups, and other State, Federal and local officials.
  • Doctoral degree in special education, psychology, disability studies, or related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of broad management or administrative experience in services for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities; or Master's degree in hospital administration, human services, nursing, or one of the fields listed above from an appropriately accredited institution and six years of experience in services for people with intellectual/developmental disabilities, three of which must have been in a broad management or administrative capacity or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
