About The Position

The Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is filling the Human Services Coordinator II (HSC II) role in the Middlesex West Area Office in Framingham. The HSC II will provide leadership, supervision and support to team of Service Coordinators. The mission of the Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is to create innovative and genuine opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorder to participate fully and contribute meaningfully to their communities as valued members. DDS serves over 43,000 vulnerable individuals throughout their lifetimes, providing a spectrum of day, employment, and residential supports. The agency directly oversees and manages $3 billion in public funds ($2.7B+ operating budget) and approximately 5,500 staff, the largest state employee workforce of any agency in the Massachusetts executive branch of government. Requirements

  • Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources
  • Controlling work through periodic reviews and or evaluations; determining subordinates training needs and providing or arranging for each such training
  • Motivating subordinate to work effectively
  • Determining the need for disciplinary action and either recommending or initiating action.
  • Ability to prepare statistical reports
  • Ability to prepare and present budget information for assigner unit
  • Ability to develop policy, and procedures for assigned units
  • Ability to learn attentively and respectfully to ascertain the desires and needs of individuals
  • Ability to facilitate groups with diverse representation and function effectively as a member of a team
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement by making reasoned decisions, acting quickly, and maintaining a calm manner in stressful situation.
  • Knowledge and demonstrated skill in development and implementation of educational and or Individual Support Plan
  • Ability to communicate effectively through verbal and written means
  • Sensitivity to religious, ethnic, and linguistic diversity of individuals with disabilities.
  • Knowledge of this general field
  • Knowledge of the principles and theories of individual and family growth and development.
  • Knowledge of mental health and or behavior disorders, and supports needed to address those disorders
  • Knowledge of motivation and positive reinforcement techniques
  • Ability to demonstrate skill in handling confidential info
  • Ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships
  • Ability to prioritize and respond to multiple demands from which individuals with disabilities and staff
  • Ability to seek guidance and support and take direction from supervisors and clinical consultants when needed
  • Applicants must have (A) at least four (4) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, case management or clinical/therapeutic experience (B) any equivalent combination of the required experience and the substitutions below.
  • Based on assignment, travel may be required. Incumbents who elect to use a motor vehicle for travel must have a current and valid motor vehicle driver's license at a class level specific to assignment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain records and work within HCSIS, PAM and Meditech.
  • Provide monitoring, review and supervision of ISP development and approval (including ensuring that ISP content accurately reflects all services and other expenditures in the individuals' budget)
  • Assign individuals to Service Coordinators
  • Participate in screening, interviewing and selection of candidate for HSC positions.
  • Train new Service Coordinators in job duties.
  • Conduct EPRS for HSC staff.
  • Participate in are planning and protocol development.
  • Work as a member of MASSCAP team for determination of prioritization of services and conduct MASSCAP assessments.
  • Supervise the Turning 22 Transition Team
  • Oversee the ITP process
  • Oversee the transition process within the area office
  • Support Area Office in fiscal planning for T22
  • Supervise the Children's Service Coordination team.
  • Supervise Adult Service Coordinators.
