About The Position

Under general supervision, the Human Services Associate performs clerical and clerical-administrative duties to provide a variety of services while working in one or more program areas in support of agency clients. Employees in this role work in service and administrative program areas, performing a broad variety of office and program support responsibilities that require applying office and administrative practices, policies, and procedures to specific office support activities. The employee will be front-facing to clients, administering EBT education and cards, and receiving requests. The position requires knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards, and evaluating customer satisfaction. It also requires knowledge of the English language, including grammar, composition, and spelling, as well as administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, spreadsheets, managing files and records, and other office terminology. Additionally, a working knowledge of human behavior and performance, individual differences in ability, personality, and interests, learning and motivation, mathematics, research methods, and available community resources is necessary.

Requirements

  • High school diploma supplemented with postsecondary coursework in subjects such as social work, human services, gerontology, or one of the social or behavioral sciences, business or related field, and relevant work experience in public administrative support work OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Demonstrated ability to work with clients, co-workers, professionals, and the public
  • Demonstrated ability to read and comprehend simple documents
  • Demonstrated ability to write simple correspondence
  • Demonstrated ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematics
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and prioritize daily tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to use correct spelling and basic grammar
  • Demonstrated ability to display common courtesy and be a team player

Nice To Haves

  • Minimal level of experience in a local VA DSS with VaCMS and/or CommonHelp within the last 2 years

Responsibilities

  • Answers phones and routes calls to appropriate staff
  • Greets visitors, routes individuals to appropriate staff
  • Sorts and files alphabetically, numerically, or by other established method
  • Maintains and purges files and other records
  • Copies and distributes documents
  • Opens, sorts, date-stamps and distributes mail
  • Types correspondence, memos, reports and or forms from written source documents
  • Uses computers and office equipment in performance of typical duties
  • Administer EBT education, cards, and receive requests
