About The Position

The Human Resource Technician supports the Human Resources functions at Jeffcom by performing a variety of administrative and technical duties. This position is responsible for maintaining accurate employee records, assisting with payroll administration, supporting the hiring and onboarding processes, and providing general HR support to employees to ensure their needs are met.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Two or more years of experience in HR or related business field preferred.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain CCIC/NCIC certification within six (6) months of hire. This includes being able to pass a background check.
  • Ability to remain drug and alcohol free; marijuana use is not allowed, even if medically prescribed.
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Knowledge of payroll, HRIS and recruiting systems preferred.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to make appropriate decisions when required.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills to meet deadlines effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build positive relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information confidentially and professionally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Documents and standard office equipment.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently.
  • Capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions.

  • HR certificate preferred (PHR, SHRM-CP), or equivalent.

Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of administrative duties such as scanning, filing and document retention.
  • Maintain and update employee records, ensuring confidentiality and compliance with policies.
  • Respond to employee inquires by accessing personnel files and providing authorized information.
  • Assist with the hiring process, including job postings, scheduling interviews, recruiting events, Criticall and facilitating pre-employment assessments.
  • Assist the HR Director with new hire onboarding administrative functions as well as new hire orientation.
  • Assist with processing employee separations including paperwork and system updates.
  • Perform payroll activities to include timecard approvals, review of timecards, payroll audits and employee status changes.
  • Pull payroll reports and submit retirement contributions as required.
  • Assist with data collection, reporting and analysis for various HR related functions.
  • Maintain tracking spreadsheets for HR related activities and compliance.
  • Ensure strict confidentiality of sensitive personnel, medical, and operational information, including Protected Health Information (“PHI”) as defined under the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) in a sensitive, information-rich environment.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to maintain and expand skills and knowledge.
  • Perform multiple tasks simultaneously while remaining detail oriented.
  • Remain calm and effective during emergencies and stressful personnel situations, even during heavy workloads; exercise good judgment, prioritize situations accurately, and obtain and act on information quickly and accurately.
  • Maintain regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
  • Be available to work beyond 40 hours per week, including evenings, holidays, and weekends, as needed.
  • Work cooperatively with consultants, employees, emergency responders, member and user agencies, and co-workers.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned.
