About The Position

Partners with individuals on employment, benefits, and payroll related matters; responds to and resolves inquiries and provides knowledgeable assistance. Partners with employees, students, and the community as their primary resource contact; counsels on human resource and payroll related matters; responds to and resolves related questions, problems, and inquiries with positive and welcoming manner, models excellent customer service standards. Works as a collaborative member of the human resources team to identify and participate in initiatives and programs that deliver the College’s strategic priorities. Coordinates the campus professional development and tuition waiver programs to enhance employee skills and leadership and connect their contributions to the success of students and the College. Manages employment contracts in collaboration with Academic Affairs and Continuing Education. Supports employee life cycle processes from onboarding to offboarding, including benefits, retirement, unemployment, collective bargaining, and workers compensation. Performs payroll, benefits, and leave accrual entry into the human resources information system (HRIS). Monitors employees’ time by validation of data and supervisor authorizations. Ensures compliance with FLSA regulations and collective bargaining agreements; modifies system to reflect required updates, reviews and reconciles data ensuring accuracy; provides clear and empathetic communication to employees regarding any necessary adjustments. Initiates, communicates with, and assists employees in the interpretation of federal or state laws, human resources/payroll policies, collective bargaining agreements, procedures, or other related changes. Trains supervisors and employees in the use of the HRIS system; sets up records for new employees and edits existing records as necessary. Ensures the integrity of the systems. Generates various reports with charts and statistics in support of human resource operations. Accurately and efficiently maintains records, files, reports, and contracts, updates information according to system standards and procedures. Compiles data and information for compliance such as, but not limited to, audits, unemployment, salary surveys, collective bargaining, the Affordable Care Act/American Health Care Act, Office of Civil Rights, Department of Labor, Montana University System, College and University Professional Association (CUPA) and public retirement systems. Disseminates and maintains confidential records. Reviews and makes recommendations on policies and procedures; assists in the interpretation of policy related issues and collective bargaining agreements. Remains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignment. Attends related trainings, workshops, and professional development. Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed, may supervise staff. Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, employees, and the College. Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment and maintains effective working relationships. Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws and policies. Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on committees and contributing in the community in college-related activities Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree AND two years of directly related work experience, OR Associate’s degree in related field AND four years of human resources experience, OR An equitable combination of six years of higher education and directly related human resources/payroll work experience
  • Knowledge of principles, practices and standards of human resource and payroll administration
  • Knowledge of applicable state and federal regulations
  • Strong project and time management skills; highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Skill and ability to operate current technology including knowledge of human resource information systems; strong personal computer skills, requiring familiarity with, Microsoft O/S systems, Excel and Word software
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, organizational and quality customer service skills required to interact with all college employees and students as well as third party vendors.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality of sensitive data.
  • Superior analytical, critical thinking, problem solving and resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated capacity to develop and maintain effective working relationships with individuals and organizations reflecting a broad range of identities, perspectives and experiences.
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.
  • Ability and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and community.
